Herbal eGram #749 Defies Logic
Good Morning!
No matter how you calculate or try to understand, there are some things in life that defy logic. Scientists like to believe that everything can be explained by algorithms. But even within a calculable text there are areas of intuitive notion. These are areas that are often assigned a letter in order to go on and continue theorizing. Maybe we can assign U to what we understand to be true and X as something yet defined. The X would be the intuitive notion. The equation would look like U+X =? (outcome).
What you understand to be true and the yet not explained equals the result. So, in healing we know that there are certain functions of the body that are fact. The body makes every effort to repair but its main function is life. It will do whatever it can to keep you alive. Sometimes this function obstructs health. For example: A cyst.
A cyst is a small sac that can grow on the skin, organs, and other body tissues. There are hundreds of different types of cysts, most of which are harmless. In some rare cases, however, these structures can be a sign of a more serious condition, such as a hormonal imbalance or cancer.
Depending on what the sac is filled with determines whether it is life-threatening or something the body will get rid of if given the right nutrients and the ability to dump the toxins it contains. So, one could puncture it if it is filled with fluid but if that fluid is toxic and the sac is on the inside of the body those toxins are free to develop other cysts or even cause damage enough to die.
My view is that a cyst is simply the body’s way of protecting us from harm because we haven’t treated the tissue correctly. A blister can form because the tissue has been irritated. A cyst can form due to an infection (irritation). If there is tissue that also has become part of the irritation then it too becomes part of the cyst. So, here is one of my favorite sayings, “Whatever the body creates, it can “un-create”. If you understand what you did, or didn’t do to create the cyst, then you can make it go away. This is the U part of the equation. Understanding!
So, on to the un-scientific, or non-reasoning part of the equation (X). Love, for example cannot be expressed in scientific terms. Fear also defies logic. If you’ve ever experienced intense fear, or love, you will grasp the lack of reasoning in these emotions. So, if you agree that there are things in life that cannot be scientifically proven than you too can understand how intuitive healing occurs.
What if you could initiate intuitive healing? How would that change your ability to be healthier? Quantum healing is the label put on this type of healing. It is pretty amazing. You can watch a 3 inch tumor disappear in a matter of minutes via youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PZpRP1FV0lE
What if I told you there are no special powers needed? We all have this vitality within us. Most of us use this power negatively to initiate ill-health. This is the negative self-talk we say without even knowing we are saying it. Catch yourself saying things that are detrimental to your health such as: “Dummy,” “Idiot”, “Klutz”, and so forth. Learn to show yourself love. Some people say, “my arthritis or my cancer”. Do not own your condition. Your body has created it but you don’t want to own it. You want to recognize the condition and then know that it is a message. What is the message? Do you need to love yourself better? Do you need to treat yourself with more respect?
The body is over 60% water and when you speak negatively, you change the liquid of the body into ill-health. When you show yourself love and talk kindness to yourself, that same liquid can become a dynamic healing process. Watch for yourself as the beauty of crystals form when given the positive words of love.
Some people pull away from the word Faith. What if you exchanged that with Hope? Hope is something that can’t be explained and it can’t be quantified. Hope is energy. When you combine that energy with intention you initiate a powerful means of healing. Hope can be the “X” factor that energizes your body’s healing ability. An intention I use is: “God’s healing energy flows through me and I am filled with abundant health and vitality.” Feel free to use that or one of your own that vibrates health and healing. Initiate your “X” factor and combine it with healthy nutrition.
Defy logic and create the health you want to experience.

Herbal eGram #748 Willow
Good Morning!
I like to judge the onset of spring by checking out the changing colors of willow trees. During the winter the Willow limbs are a dusky gold and as Spring approaches you can see it subtly changing from gold-green to chartreuse and then to spring green. Willows are known for their flexibility. The oak is known for strength.
When the wind blows the willow branches flow back and forth and seem to dance in the breeze. In a strong wind the oak may lose branches or even fall but the willow generally just keeps swaying. The one thing that will make the willow weak is that its roots will go for water and once it finds it will search no more. So, if the willow is at the edge of a lake the roots will be very shallow.
So while the branches don’t break off, the tree itself make be knocked over which is the very thing that happened to a willow we had at our lake edge. A strong wind knocked it over and revealed an eight foot root ball. While we were hacking away at the branches thinking the tree to be a “goner” the tree suddenly started to rear upright again! The weight of the branches was holding the tree down and as we hacked off the weight it simply popped back up into place.
When life’s burdens seem to knock you down; think of the strength of the willow. Let go of those worries and things you can’t control and pop back up to enjoy another season. Most of what weighs us down, are things we have no control over and therefore it is useless to worry about them. Choose to work on those things that are in your control. Learn to be more flexible about those things that really don’t matter in the long run.
An herb known for its flexibility is Horsetail. It is sometimes known as joint grass. Each stalk has joint-like structures about every inch or so. There are many varieties and some actually have a main stalk with joint-like fronds coming off the main stalk. This type is often referred to as bottle brush herb. The high content of silica makes this herb especially beneficial for strengthening bone. I like the formula HSN-W because it has a combination of herbs that are especially high in silica as well as vitamins, minerals and trace minerals that support the skeletal system.
Like many herbs, Horsetail is considered a nuisance weed by some people. It can have a tap root that goes down as much as 3 feet below the surface. Just pulling it will not work because it pops off at the joint sections. It looks somewhat like bamboo and can be as difficult to get rid of. So, just make use of it! Make a tea of it by putting boiled water over the clean broken herb. Let it steep for about 10 minutes and then add the tea water to your bath. Silica in Horsetail is wonderful for the skin.
You can also make a tea out of the HSN-W. Open two capsules into a cup and then pour boiled water over the powder. Brew for about 10 minutes and then strain through a coffee filter. Use this to rinse your hair and you will find that it improves the hair by strengthening it and adding shine. The rosemary and sage in the mixture are very beneficial and filled with nutrition that the scalp and hair need for healthy growth and vitality. Some people also like to add a few drops of Ylang Ylang essential oil to the rinse.
Taking HSN-W internally can help with collagen synthesis. Collagen is needed for many functions of the body. Collagen is the “cement” that holds structures together. It is extremely important for what is known as “tight junctions”. This is what is lacking when there is “leaky gut”. Another way to get more collagen into the body is with bone broth. There are many recipes for making this nutritious food on the internet. What you want to make sure of is that you are using the best quality bones available. You don’t want to leach out toxins from the bone when you are trying to make yourself healthier.
This is the main reason why I choose Nature’s Sunshine. The quality control is impeccable. Recently our Chief of Quality Control, Lynda Hammonds was in China inspecting some of our sources for Chinese herbs. She found 3 out of the 4 passed inspection. When someone does not pass inspection they can no longer provide us with herbs. We expect the best quality for the way an herb is grown, handled while cleaning and drying and then processing. There are strict guidelines that they must follow in order to sell to Nature’s Sunshine. We don’t just take their word for it. They must pass a surprise inspection in the field as well.
Be like the willow and learn to go with the flow.

Herbal eGram #747 Frenzy
Good Morning!
When I was a little girl I remember spring being a time of “spring cleaning frenzy”. My mom would move all the furniture and clean. As I got older I helped scrubbing bathroom tile grout; cleaning out closets and all sorts of things one should do a couple of times a year. Areas that normally just got a brush over were scrubbed and furniture polished. Floors were scrubbed and waxed.
Spring and Fall were times for deep cleaning. Do you still do this? The spring was the time to clean registers and baseboards as the accumulation of dirt from a coal furnace would leave particles that would cling. We then moved and had a gas furnace but we still cleaned those areas. Windows were scrubbed and walls washed. Back then my dad smoked and that yellow stain was so difficult to get rid of we had to use detergent and then rinse.
My dad was a glazer as a trade and often times a mirror would be ordered and not picked up or paid for and he would be able to get it at cost. We had a huge mirror in the living room that covered most of one wall. I remember having to clean that mirror and try to get all the streaks out. We also had strips of mirror along one wall of our basement. I liked how the strips would make you appear fat or skinny depending on where you stood. It was like living in a house of mirrors in an amusement park. The mirrors did give the room brightness and make it appear larger.
In the Fall we cleaned the dirt that collected during the summer because we lived on an unpaved road---Oh the dust! Every month or so, the road would get a spraying of tar. That brought its own set of cleaning frenzy. Across the street was a park and of course the shortest distance from the park to our home was across the road. My mother would want us to take our shoes off but occasionally we waited to the last minute to do a bathroom break and rushed into the house straight to the bathroom.
Spring and Fall are good times to do body cleansing as well. In the Spring I like to do a package of Clean Start as it helps to clean out from a cell level some of the gunk that collects during the winter. All the Holiday feasting and rich foods of the winter tend to clog things up and doing a spring cleanse is very helpful in maintaining good health.
If you don’t consciously do a cleanse, your body will mount a cleanse anyway. That runny nose and cough may be your body saying its time to clean out from the excesses during the winter. Getting rid of toxins is a part of being healthy. Having a healthy eliminative system is very important so that good nutrition can be absorbed and food digested in a timely manner. I found one of the best ways to break up congestion (even in the sinuses) is taking Proactazyme. This enzyme product helps to break up congestion especially proteins that the body makes to move out toxic debris. I take two capsules daily away from meals starting the first of March and continuing until the beginning of summer.
In the Fall I like to do a package of Tiao He Cleanse as it does a great job of assisting the liver in detoxification. When the liver is overwhelmed you may feel anxious and/or depressed. Doing this cleanse helps the winter months more bearable. The liver is our great detoxifier and it collects all manner of chemicals and solvents that we breathe in or ingest. Our environment can be pretty toxic and doing a cleanse will make it so you don’t have symptoms that the body is trying to detoxify. Nausea and vomiting are two symptoms that the body is trying to get rid of toxins. Sound like the flu?
Another state of frenzy during this time of the year, are students studying for finals. At any school age children and young adults can get anxious during testing time—even adults! The basic support is Distress Remedy. This liquid flower essence can help balance emotional upset and help you feel calmer during times of stress. It has no alcohol and can be used by children and anyone on a dietary restriction. It can be taken straight from the bottle and dropped under the tongue and then swallowed. It can be put in bottled water (1 dropper for 8 ounces of pure water) and sipped on throughout the day. It can be dropped onto the pulse points or bottoms of baby’s feet to get absorbed through the skin. And it is even great to put in the pet’s water dish.
Another of my favorite nerve supports is Nutri Calm. This vitamin B and nervine herbal combination has been around for decades and helps countless people get through exams, studying, and many other stressful situations. Taking one tablet three times a day is recommended. If you weigh less than 150 pounds you might try taking one tablet for every 50 pounds of weight. It can be crushed between two spoons and added to applesauce for younger children. The applesauce can then be dosed for twice a day if the child weighs 50 pounds or spread it out for two days. This is a huge help for when a child seems anxious.
Stress-J is a great herbal combination to give at supper time to children to get them to calm down for evening and to bed at a decent time. Since it is in capsule form it is easier to open and put into food. Herbs are dried concentrated foods and their density can help the body heal faster due to good nutrition. Children need to have physical exercise. During the day their brains are working hard and it can be tiring but the body needs to run around to shed some of the stress built up during the day. Playing video games is just another way to stress the brain. Running, swimming, jumping, playing ball and riding a bike are all good exercises that children did readily before video games.
Snacking out of boredom is not the answer. Teaching children good ways to de-stress is helping them create good stress management techniques later in life. Teaching by example is the best way to help create healthy habits. Make it a family thing. Eating healthy, exercising, getting good rest, drinking water, and taking supplements are ways to avoid sickness.
Share this information with those around you who are in a state of frenzy.

Herbal eGram #746 Off, On, Off, On…
Good Morning!
You may think I’m going to discuss a two year old who has found a switch of some sort and as a source of amusement turns the unit off and then on just to see your reaction. However, what I am speaking of is how quickly one can go from feeling normal in temperature to immediately having to shed clothes or coverings. At night the covers are pushed off and then when the chill comes, back on they go. Some women have to only cope with this situation for a few years but most find they are dealing with these temperature variances for more than 10 years!
Most women after a certain age can relate to this and it has been labeled “hot flash”. Hormonal imbalances contribute to these occurrences and they are exacerbated by stress. Since the adrenal glands deal with stress and often are pushed to the limit during a woman’s lifetime they are pretty well zapped by the time pre-menopause hits. Without going into too much detail a woman slows down and then stops producing estrogen and progesterone from the usual cycle of menses. Her hormonal balance is now dependent on the Adrenals. So, it is no wonder her body has difficulty meeting the demands of these hormones.
Many medical doctors will prescribe estrogen or a combination of estrogen and progesterone but this isn’t addressing the real imbalance. They are not addressing the adrenal glands and how they are weakened by continual stress. Treating symptoms is not the most effective way to help the body regain balance. Sometimes a woman in her 60’s and 70’s will continue to have periods. This is not right. Science shows that estrogen contributes to cancer. But, this is a whole other class that I presented last year. https://www.dropbox.com/s/zptrbrsxq8m3awi/Natural%20Hormone%20support.mp3?dl=0
Before a woman reaches the age of pre menopause and menopause itself many years are spent dealing with PMS. Over 75 percent of women experience Premenstrual syndrome in Western society. A syndrome typically demonstrates a variety of symptoms and is associated with multiple causes. This uncomfortable time is the brunt of jokes but if you are experiencing any of the over 150 symptoms associated with this imbalance it is “no joking matter”.
Researchers have come a long way in discovering why so many women suffer with anxiety, irritability, depression, fluid retention, cramping, food cravings as well as other physical and emotional distresses. Typically there are 4 major and two minor types of PMS with associated symptomology. Helping to regain hormonal balance can reduce and often eliminate uncomfortable to downright painful menses. Most of us women just take in stride as being female but we wouldn’t if we knew there were herbs and supplements that can help. Especially if those supplements did no harm!
One of my all-time favorite supplements is called Master Gland Formula. It does such a great job for teens (both guys and gals) to supply the organs and systems that depend on good nutrition to function properly. This product in conjunction with Nutri Calm makes a perfect daily nutritional supplement that is balanced in vitamins, minerals and herbs that support hormonal health.
Support for the adrenal glands is a key to helping the body regain hormonal balance. Properly handling stress is also important. Stress management includes dressing properly for weather. This time of year many people will push spring by dressing too soon for warm weather and getting chilled. It is also difficult to dress warm enough in the morning to deal with the cold and dressing down for the afternoon warmth. Make sure you dress in layers that can be easily removed as the temperature rises and falls. This type of stress is called “thermal stress”.
It is a type of stress that is easily dealt with by paying attention to your body’s temperature. Getting over-heated and then chilled causes undo stress on the adrenals and thyroid glands. Make sure you drink half your body weight in ounces of water. This hydration is necessary for many functions in the body. Be aware of the signals your body presents and don’t be hasty in pretending they don’t matter because they do. Your body is communicating its needs to you and paying attention is part of being healthy. Many times listening to your body and doing the appropriate balancing will save you time, pain and ill-health later on.

Herbal eGram #745 Clearly!
Good Morning!
Isn’t it wonderful when something becomes so clear to us? It’s like all the veils have been stripped away and there before us is the answer we’ve needed. It’s like when you are driving through fog and all of a sudden there is the road as clear as day. The surprise is that, it was there all along—we just couldn’t see it.
The Chinese call this “muddled thinking”. Nobody can make a good decision when their mind is foggy. Poor decisions are costly. They affect our relationships, our finances and stability as well as erode our self-esteem. The thing is, everybody, at some time during their life, has experienced it; some more than others. Recognizing that when you are in a fog is not a good time to make a decision is the best decision at the time.
When a loved one dies there is initial shock and decisions are required. Having the advice of those who care about us helps us make better decisions but no big decision should be made until grief is past this initial stage of numbness. Many losses fall under this rule. Some losses take longer to recover from but still it remains that big decisions should be held off until clarity prevails.
In ancient times the herb Clary Sage was used to help create a “clear vision”. Clary sage oil is often used to improve vision and address related conditions, such as tired or strained eyes. But, we also need emotional clarity and this herb in the form of an essential oil can help us meditate and see the potential of different ideas.
Sometimes we seek the advice of others to help answer our questions. This is a good practice as well as learning from history; our own, and that of others. Taking all of the knowledge we have about something and then absorbing it is the step many people don’t take. Ask yourself, Does the answer feel right; Is it the right answer for you?
Many times the advice others give is what they would do, but you are not them. And therefore it has to feel right within you. A decision must never be made merely to please another, because that harbors resentment. So, doing some meditation while diffusing the essential oil of Clary Sage may be helpful in creating the clarity you need to decide what should be done.
Clary Sage can be mixed (10-12 drops) into a cup of Epsom salt and used in a bath. Soaking in this solution often helps to move stuck energy that may be blocking your ability to see the next step clearly. Clary Sage is also a lovely scent and it is part of the chemical make-up of Eau de Cologne from Channel (of course you could also spend $160 for a 2 ounce bottle) but I like the purity of the essential oil without the other chemicals and the thought of “soaking in luxury”.
Some of the many conditions Clary Sage is reported to help is creating sebum for healthier skin and helping to grow hair. So, add 3-4 drops of it in your shampoo (per 2 ounces of shampoo). Make a shower gel: to a 2 ounce squeeze bottle add: 1 ounce of NSP Concentrate, 1 Tablespoon of Aloe Gel 8 drops of Clary Sage (you can also add Lavender if you like the combination) and fill the rest of the bottle with purified water. Shake to mix and enjoy the heavenly scent while helping your skin and hair get healthier.
Clary Sage from NSP is also the purest you can get and is guaranteed by the “Sure Source” guarantee given to all our essential oils. This means that the grower has signed an avadavat stating that it is organic and pure; the manufacturer pressing the oil also has signed a certificate of authenticity and NSP has run their tests to determine the purity of oil. Nobody else does this kind of checking to make sure you get the purest of essential oils! If you don’t believe me, ask the company now suppling you with essential oils if they do this three way testing.
Clary Sage is antimicrobial and antibacterial. It relaxes the nerves and soothes anxiety. It is astringent and produces a cooling effect when diluted and used on the skin. Clary sage essential oil reduces fevers, relieves bloating, stimulates digestion, lowers blood pressure, uplifts the spirit, and is excellent for the female system.
Hot flash spray: Fill a 2 ounce spray bottle (preferably glass) with purified water up to the “shoulder” of the bottle; add 5 drops of Clary Sage and 5 drops of Changes (oil and water doesn’t mix well so I like to add a few drops of lecithin—you can open a capsule by piercing it with a pin and squeeze out the oil into the bottle). Lecithin is an emulsifier and does not disturb the effects of the essential oils or their properties but helps to blend the oil and water to make a better mixture.
Supporting better digestion and correcting imbalances in the gut: Take a 2 ounce squeeze bottle and fill two thirds with Aloe Vera gel and add 10 drops of Clary Sage. Fill the rest of the bottle with purified water. Before bed spread a thin layer of this mixture on your abdomen from below the rib cage and over to the hip creating a circular motion in a clockwise manner rubbing gently until all the solution has been absorbed into the skin. Essential oils are picked up by the limbic system (if you smell it you are getting it into this system) and carried throughout the body via the lymph.
If you have a backache the same solution can be applied to the back as it is antispasmodic and very calming. It can be used for muscle cramps or cramping during menses. Clary Sage has anti-anxiety properties and therefore very calming. Some people like to use it at night to calm their thinking so that during the night your brain can work on a solution that is revealed in the morning upon waking. It also helps to regulate and balance blood pressure. If you are using natural means to support blood pressure you should also take responsibility in daily monitoring it.
I hope these ideas will help you with “clarity of vision” and that you find this article helpful.

Herbal eGram #744 It’s in the Air!
Good Morning!
Across the country we’ve been experiencing warmer temperatures and even the air feels different. As spring begins its slow process of rejuvenation we should think about how we too can clean out the old and put in some life-giving nutrients. Many people do “Spring Cleaning” and we need to apply that to our body as well.
What some people don’t know is that when you put good nutrients into the body it will then dump toxins that it was holding on to. So, you can clean while you are providing the body with healthy food and supplements. Zinc can help the body neutralize harmful free radicals and assist in strengthening the liver. Chromium can help balance blood sugar. Good fats can help turn around a “fatty liver”. Putting in live food will help with many functions such as digestion.
I personally feel strongly that most people need to take enzymes with meals and sometimes in between meals. I’ve discussed in other newsletters the difference between enzymes and probiotics and the fact that to be healthy in our toxic environment you need both.
Live bacteria in the form of probiotics help post digestion and assist with absorption. So, once the enzymes have broken down the cells, probiotics can carry the nutrients into the mitochondria to assist with energy production and body function.
Hopefully it can become clear that the process is: good nutrients in with healthy enzymes to assist with digestion. This then is processed in the small intestine and goes to the liver. From the liver the nutrients go to the cells. Once the cell has the good nutrients it can get rid of toxic structures through various elimination processes. So, “In with the good and Out with the bad”. You simply cannot just cleanse without giving the body what it needs to build.
Fermented foods are another way of rebalancing our bodies. You can cut up a half cup of cabbage. Chop as if you were making coleslaw. You can mix a sprinkling of NSP Sea Salt to make the juice form better. Add two opened capsules of Probiotic Eleven and place in a cloth covered jar overnight. The next morning you can blend a portion of this along with frozen fruit into your morning smoothie. This is a painless way of adding live fermented foods into your diet. You can increase the fermented cabbage a little at a time.
We like to sprout seeds so that their energy can nourish us. They are easy to throw into a smoothie or at the last minute some soup. A teaspoon of seeds goes a long way! The key is to buy organic! You put the seeds into a quart canning jar. You will want either cheesecloth or a slotted cover because you need to rinse and drain this twice a day.
We’ve used Alfalfa, broccoli, mung and a mixture for sprouting and they are delicious. You can pack them into a sandwich and add extra nutrition. Some seeds will be spicy and some will hardly have any flavor at all. The smaller the seed the longer it takes to see the sprout. Alfalfa seeds will show a tail in about 24 hours and be ready to use in about 3 days. We like to wait about 4 days for mung. You can get special sprouting equipment but the canning jar works well. We keep it in the bathroom and when its time to brush teeth—it’s time to rinse seeds.
Sprouts are extremely nutritious and power packed. Historically, many of our grains sprouted accidentally, a happenstance that modern techniques have largely eradicated. Now, however, we're learning that we may be missing out by turning our back on sprouting; new techniques of controlled sprouting give us the best of the past, for better health. Naturally you want to start with organic seeds and grains that have no contaminants.
The natural agents that protect seeds and nuts from early germination can wreak havoc in our digestive system. Soaking and sprouting replicates germination. This process activates and multiplies nutrients (particularly Vitamins A, B, and C), neutralizes enzyme inhibitors, and promotes the growth of vital digestive enzymes.
You can sprout raw nuts as well. These need only be soaked overnight and then rinsed. You can add these to smoothies and you can also refrigerate them and when you want to toast them, do so right before you are going to eat them. They are incredibly delicious and much easier to digest.
As spring unfolds in the next few months I hope you get enjoyment out of sprouting or fermenting to add live energy into your daily diet.

Herbal eGram #743 Get The Lead Out!
Good Morning!
Flint Michigan is near where I live and my heart goes out to the people there and the situation they have with toxic water. Lead solder has been used in many municipal drinking water pipes and there may be other cities where this is happening but Flint was the first to recognize their water supply was contributing to ill health in many residents.
The corrosive Flint River water caused lead from aging pipes to leach into the water supply, causing extremely elevated levels of lead. In Flint, between 6,000 and 12,000 children have been exposed to drinking water with high levels of lead and they may experience a range of serious health problems. Because it works at a cell level, symptoms aren’t always recognized and the cause is not always concluded. The reason this awareness came about was due to so many people getting sick.
Once a person has consumed lead for a period of time it causes some very serious health issues. The younger one is, the worse it is. For example if tap water has been added to baby formula it can cause malabsorption. The body absorbs lead like it does helpful minerals like calcium. It is a bully when it comes to minerals. It won’t let other minerals be absorbed. So, calcium cannot uptake in the bones and the heart can’t get the magnesium it needs and so forth.
While the local outcry about Flint water quality was growing in early 2015, Flint water officials filed papers with state regulators purporting to show that "tests at Flint's water treatment plant had detected no lead and testing in homes had registered lead at acceptable levels.” It wasn’t until that very highly chlorinated water past through the aging pipes and in to the homes of residents that it became the toxic water that instigated ill health. Chlorine is corrosive! It ate away at the solder and dissolved it into the water flowing through the pipes. Lead itself doesn’t have taste but people complained about the taste of this water because of the chlorine.
Water purification is something I’ve felt of utmost importance in achieving health. I have had a reverse osmosis machine in my home for over 30 years (periodically changing the filters and membrane). Reverse Osmosis removes lead. Most filters do not, they only remove chlorine and decrease cadmium and mercury levels.
The Brita® pitcher filter uses technology which combines coconut-based activated carbon with ion exchange resin in a BPA free housing. These materials work together to reduce chlorine taste and odor, zinc, and harmful contaminants copper, mercury and cadmium. Read more at https://www.brita.com/why-brita/what-we-filter/#eHPS4k3gYTzzvxsf.99
The Nature’s Spring uses a pre and post filter along with a reverse osmosis membrane eliminating toxins from the water. This is the same technology sailors use to turn sea water into pure drinking water. https://www.naturessunshine.com/us/product/natures-spring-ro-water-unit/1935/ The new and improved Nature’s Spring is a four-stage system that offers one unit for all city water systems and solid-block activated carbon in the pre- and post-filters. It also has a special timer with indicator lights so you know when to change the filters. It is also the unit we use to purify water provided in our office for our patients and those who visit the office.
Algin is a seaweed like kelp that helps absorb heavy metals in the body and can carry them out by way of the elimination system. Capsules can be opened up and made either as a tea or mixed with food for young children and for those who can take capsules it can be taken that way. The recommendations of the bottle are for a person weighing 150 pounds so you can extrapolate the weight of the person taking the supplement by adding or subtracting accordingly.
While one is taking Algin they can begin to supply the body with healthy minerals to help rebalance the body’s mineral supply. Water (purified) should be taken in the amounts of ½ the body weight in ounces daily to help facilitate the elimination process.
A great balanced liquid mineral product like Ionic Minerals with Acai is a good choice when trying to make sure the body gets the minerals it needs. Eating lots of vegetables, especially those that have been grown organically, as they have absorbed a high mineral content from the soil is an important dietary consideration. Minerals are not easily digested and therefore taking an enzyme product with meals is suggested. Proactazyme can be opened and put in applesauce for the young and those who cannot swallow capsules. For people over 45 I recommend Food Enzymes taken with meals.
If there has been injury to the esophagus due to the corrosive nature of the water then taking Aloe Vera Whole Leaf either in water or by itself is helpful in soothing the irritation and helping the tissue of the throat heal. Zinc is also a tissue healer and if one is doing the above recommended and not finding healing occurring fast enough then taking a couple of zinc tablets would be helpful.

Herbal eGram #742 “Simply the Best!”
Good Morning!
…Better than all the rest! Tina Turner sprang on stage singing this to an adoring crowd assembled to help her celebrate her 76th birthday. She dances in heels! She looks great and yes, some of it is due to surgery but what catches you is her incredible energy. Most seventy year olds would not be able to even make it onto the stage without assistance. This takes work and dedication. Muscles must be used and strengthened. The body needs the correct food for cells to become strong and healthy tissue. We need to digest properly and eliminate our toxins often. Health isn’t about luck. It’s work. Once you feel this energy flow through you it becomes addictive and you want to be as healthy as you can be…better than all the rest!
I personally would like to start every morning watching and listening to her sing this song. She is an inspiration to everyone and especially anyone over the age of 60! I dare anyone to watch this video and not start singing along and desire to get up and move. Music is an incredible motivator. I don’t especially enjoy classes where they blast music at you while shouting out instructions to do this or that. It does the opposite of motivating me.
Each person must find what motivates them. As I write this I’m listening to Mozart. This would not be my music of choice if I was exercising. So music can set the mood. Find out what motivates you for what you need to accomplish. Maybe you need total quite; the music of birds singing, or ocean waves; maybe you need someone laughing with their full belly laugh and yet maybe you need an instrumental rather than song; whatever turns you on! Find what helps you do what you need to do to become the best you can.
Our words hold an incredible energy. Singing this song with the intent that you can be the best—the best your ever could be! Rising each morning with energy and drive to make this day the best…pain-free and in optimal health with purpose and love is the energy that will make it happen.
Tina didn’t always believe she was the best. Her husband was abusive emotionally and physically. She loved Ike but knew that if she was to achieve her dreams she couldn’t be with him. Her biography tells of a Tina who rose above all odds to become the person we now see on stage. Ike often shouted at her that she would be nothing without him. He demeaned her in many ways and most people excuse it as part of his “cocaine personality”.
Words hurt! Especially when those words are out of the mouth of someone you love. How does one heal from those hurts to rise to fame and assumed happiness? Each path is different. What was right for Tina may not be your path. How many people are hurt by words their parent(s) directed at them? Maybe the intent was to encourage. But, criticism is often hurtful. When we are young we do need direction and there are so many people who influence us. Maybe they were trying their best but it came out all wrong. There is no manual that comes with the individual that gives a parent or teacher the words that will be right all the time.
We are all human and because of that humanness we are subject to error. There is no such thing as the perfect person. So, at an early stage we should instill in children that they are going to make mistakes because it is part of the learning process. The important thing is to understand what went wrong and how not to make that mistake again.
When we are shouted at or abused in some way it usually begins with the words, “You Are”… When you say the words you are, what comes to mind? Do you see someone who has shouted at you some disparaging words? Has that reproach become part of your, “I Am”? Separating the “You Are’s” from the “I am” take thought. Are we living out someone else’s expression of who they think we were? Find a peaceful place and examine this. It can be the basis for healing. Taking the emotional remedy, “Release It” at the time you are spending these few minutes of thought can help move stuck energy that isn’t serving your best you.
The strength never comes from outside yourself but from your inner spirit and that often must be nurtured. So, after you have examined the “You Are” and how it was directed, take a deep breath and while thinking of whether that is really true, take the remedy, “Be Courageous”. This remedy will help you find the courage to remove this old mantra with something that is helpful and nurturing. One such saying is: “God’s healing energy flows through me and I have the potential to be pain-free and filled with abundant health.” Saying this several times will help you move toward health and away from the imbalance your body experienced during the time of misguided words.
Cells respond to our words…be very careful of what you say especially when followed by the words, “I Am”. Find 5 things that you believe you are: kind, loving, helpful, cheerful, respectful, fun, sincere, and maybe you can soon say, The Best!
Hope you found this helpful.

Herbal eGram #741 “I get it!”
Good Morning!
Understanding something someone is trying to share with you can sometimes be like the proverbial slap on the forehead—“I get it!” It’s like the cloud cover dissipates and everything becomes clear. Communication depends on the ability to get your message across. So often, people are misunderstood. We may think we understood perfectly what the other person is saying but often what you heard was not the intent of the person talking.
We don’t all have the ability to state in words exactly what we mean. We try to interpret facial expression and body gestures along with what a person is saying and too often these messages are mixed, so it adds to the confusion rather than clarifying. It helps if we repeat back to the person what we understand they are trying to tell us. Good communication can either support a healthy relationship, or ruin it.
Our actions are based on our interpretation of what we think we understood. If we’ve taken what that person said at face value and haven’t thought about what might be their intention and add to that their actions we don’t have the whole picture. Sometimes taking a step back and thinking about a discussion will give a person a better prospective of the communication rather than blurting out something based on a wrong interpretation. How many times would you like to have taken back something you said in haste? I know it has happened to me.
I think of digestion in the same way. Maybe the wrong food is being taken in and our body is trying to repair cells and tissue with inferior or incorrect nutrients. Sometimes the food is eaten too quickly and the body doesn’t have time to break it down. I have also seen a person’s health being hampered by the fact that even though they are eating healthy, their body doesn’t have the tools to break apart that food into usable nutrients.
Most of us have lost the ability to produce enough enzymes to break food down properly by the time we are in our 30s. I’ve even seen young children not able to digest properly and need help with herbs like papaya or fennel. Colic in babies is a problem with digestion and may have mechanical roots in a hiatal hernia. This structural misalignment of stomach and diaphragm can easily be massaged back into balance. Unfortunately many people do not understand that it is possible.
Having the digestive process hampered by a Hiatal Hernia can lead to many illnesses including breathing problems. I have seen that when there is a Hiatal Hernia there is often an ileocecal valve that is not functioning properly. There may be bacteria that are contributing to the problem as well. Taking a good probiotic will be helpful but it isn’t the same as taking enzymes. Often people think that probiotics help with digestion. It would be more appropriate to say they help with assimilation rather than digestion. Digestion is the actual breaking down of food into nutrients. Assimilation is absorbing those nutrients into the cells of the body.
The supplement that is most popular in my Herb Room is Food Enzymes. I am adamant about good digestion. If you can’t get the nutrients to the cells, then repair or replenish cannot occur. Food Enzymes have a wide variety of ingredients that work with fats, carbohydrates and proteins to break down and dissolve them so that the liver can process the nutrients for whatever the body needs whether it is for energy production, cell repair or even new cells. Food Enzymes has betaine hydrochloride as one of its ingredients. This helps with the breakdown of proteins to form amino acids.
Amino acids are necessary for rebuilding and repairing muscle. So, if you aren’t producing HCl then your body will have a more difficult time making muscle tissue. Read more: http://hartonweb.com/nsp-herbs/bornforhealth.com/?sn=1836-9 If you take any kind of antacid you reduce the ability of the stomach to digest. What you should be taking instead is an enzyme product. The best time to take an enzyme product is during the meal. Eat a few bites of food; chewing well, and then swallow. Then with a little water, take your digestive enzymes. You can then continue eating. Try not to drink a lot with a meal as that dilutes the digestive process.
For those people who are mostly vegetarian or have an issue with acid reflux, I recommend using Proactazyme. This enzyme product also helps with fats, carbohydrates and proteins but focuses on vegetable proteins rather than animal proteins. This enzyme can be taken during a meal but may also be taken away from meals. I take this product when I have thickened mucus that causes me to cough. If I take Proactazyme first thing in the morning, I won’t cough the rest of the day. It can be really effective in shortening the time one deals with cold symptoms. See: http://hartonweb.com/nsp-herbs/bornforhealth.com/?sn=1525-0 for more information.
Having an effective enzyme supplement can also help breakdown any other supplements you are taking such as a multivitamin and mineral. It can also help with breaking down good fats like Omega 3 and Vitamin D3.
Try adding enzymes to your daily supplementation so you can help your body say, “I get it!”
Hope you found this helpful.

Herbal eGram #740 “K” not Okay
Good Morning!
It’s hard for me to believe that K cup and Keurig coffee brewers have become so popular. I have huge issues with these. 1st of all…really! In a time of so much focus on recycling?! Yes, most people will say, “but there is a thing where you don’t have to use the plastic cups.” But, who does? It’s just too convenient to pop in one of the plastic cups and let it brew. The extreme heat going through that plastic cup is of a major concern.
2nd: heating plastic releases chemicals that are questionable and have been shown to contribute to hormone imbalances that may contribute to weight gain and more serious consequences. There has been much research on the harmful effects of plastic. Both the heating of it and the freezing in plastic can deteriorate the integrity of the surface allowing chemicals to strip and release into the liquid.
I know I’m stepping on toes but somebody has to state the facts and stop the insanity. Coffee isn’t the best of drinks but at least if you grind organic and brew it into a glass container you can find some benefit in drinking it. Here’s a link from the Huffington Post that is quite humorous but does have some facts about drinking coffee: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/10/17/coffee-health-benefits_n_4102133.html
The chemicals used to create plastic have been researched at great length. The reason most people are not made aware of the findings from these studies is that industry doesn’t want you to know. The hazardous health effects will eventually come out, but those who manufacturer that plastic will have already profited tenfold by your ignorance. The old adage, “what they don’t know won’t hurt them” is so far off! The chemicals do immeasurable damage to both the individual and our environment.
The problems people are coming into my office for are a direct result of their diet and lifestyle. Most chronic conditions are due to what we’ve been doing or not doing. Only 10 percent of conditions are genetic. It is what we do and not do; that can determine whether we have good or bad health. The decisions you make on a daily basis will determine your health.
Fake estrogens produced by plastic and leached into the drinks and food we eat disrupts the balance of hormones. When this disruption develops, a variety of problems can arise. The problem first of all is that we have a covering over our genes called an epigene. This covering holds the gene together. So, if you have a genetic predisposition to an auto immune condition and this wrapper stays in check…you will never get the condition. However, if you unwrap that gene, than it sets up a cascade of genetic dominoes.
You don’t notice it at first. You may feel tired after a while and then body aches occur. Depending on your weak links, the condition will settle where these are located. You could end up with skin problems or joint problems. You could end up with breathing difficulties. It depends on your weak link. The breathing problems may have been contributed by the work you do or the fact that you smoke. The fake estrogen can disrupt hormonal balance in the thyroid, reproductive system, even cardiovascular system.
When your body thinks it is getting estrogen it sets up certain parameters to accept that estrogen and then when it isn’t delivered, there are consequences. Men shouldn’t have a great deal of estrogen in their body (especially the fake ones!). Hormone imbalances can show up as prostate issues or infertility or even impaired sexual health. They can lead to breast cancer in men (as well as women).
These fake estrogens are called xenoestrogens. This disruption of hormonal balance can contribute to weight gain. We are at epidemic proportions when we consider how many Americans are obese. It’s time to look at why. Could our fascination with all things plastic be a source? Plastic is made from petroleum. Petro-chemicals are found every day in our food, water and air.
According to some health care providers, hormone imbalance and estrogen dominance is at epidemic levels in our society, and is primarily responsible for the increasing number of younger women who suffer with severe symptoms of estrogen dominance such as PMS, fibrocystic breast disease, bloating, and infertility, troublesome menstrual cycles, depression, endometriosis, mood swings, and yes, excessive weight gain as well!
Cutting out some of the things we do that may contribute to hormone imbalances would be a huge contribution to better health. We already know some of them: don’t heat plastic in a microwave; don’t cook with teflon; do not use shampoos and other personal care products that contain phthalates and don’t use Styrofoam. Make your choices based on what will contribute to health rather than what is most convenient. Learn ways that can help you stay healthy.
However you start your day, I hope it is in a healthy way both in body and spirit. Your brain and nervous system need nourishment. If you aren’t handling stress very well, perhaps you need to check how you begin your day. B vitamins are necessary and are washed out of the body. At least take a multi-vitamin that is a food based supplement that has complete B supplementation such as Super Supplemental (with or without iron).
Hope you found this helpful.

Herbal eGram #739 Release It!
Good Morning!
Are you in charge? Some of the clients I see are running their lives based on old recordings. Do you do things because it’s something someone else expects of you? Many of us are caught in the trap of trying to please other people to the detriment of ourselves. This type of living is fraught with anxiety because it is too difficult to please others all the time. How do we get out of it?
Often we don’t even examine why we feel the way we do or continue to sabotage our happiness. Take a moment and check to see if some of the things you do that create unhappiness in you are based on old recordings…something your parents said or some teacher. Take one step at a time. Find one thing that you do that wasn’t your decision to do. Is it helping or hurting you?
Running your life by other peoples’ expectations only leads to sadness and anxiety. You cannot possibly know what others really want of you. Often their expectations are their own unfulfilled desires. Let it go! Being unhappy because you can’t attain someone else’s goals for you; is an unreasonable desire. What is in their mind is them succeeding and you will never manifest their success no matter how hard you try!
You need to make sure you are meeting your needs first. Choice is deciding what is best for you (honestly) and then acting on that decision. Dread happens when you are living your life based on the decision others have made for you. If you find yourself dreading something…examine why. Often we have to do things in life because we need to make a living or because it is the right thing to do. If you consciously say: “I am making the choice to do this” followed by the because… It is way different than saying, “I have to do this, or that”!
Living life without choices leaves a person feeling stuck and ineffective. Telling yourself that you are choosing to do this or that makes you feel that it is your choice. It may not be your “preference”, but it is your choice right now. Your preference may be to work someplace else or live someplace else or eat something else but for right now, this is your choice!
The flower essence of Release It has been instrumental in helping one heal from feeling stuck in a decision that may not have even been yours. Release it may help with unresolved grief or sadness due to some loss. It may even be if you lost something that you were counting on. It could be a loved one or a job or a home. You may have originally felt like the “rug was pulled out from under you”. In order to deal with it you may have just stuffed the feelings but that wasn’t the same as letting your body process the loss. Grief is a sort of shock to the system. The blood retreats from the skin and moves to the internal organs (automatically).
The way to process this is to find a way to move the blood back to the surface as quickly as possible. When this is not done and the shock is repeated the result is Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. This condition is chronic and takes much longer to heal because the body has diverted the tendency to release the trauma. Screaming and shouting can be processed as singing as loudly as one can. Laughing out loud with deep belly laughter is the best way to move these emotions out. Laugh until tears are streaming down your face! This is a wonderful way to “Release It”. Using the flower essence along with or because you can’t let yourself go in laughter, can move this stuck energy at a cell level.
Follow Release It with Be Courageous! It takes courage to find your own path. Be Courageous is a flower essence blend that helps a person develop the courage to take action in the face of their fears. It helps them find the self-confidence to pursue the goals and directions they desire in life. It helps them trust their own observations and judgment rather than blindly trusting in and following the advice of others.
Flower Essences are gentle yet effective energy medicine that helps move at a cell level energy that has been stuck. Sometimes we aren’t even aware of being stuck, we just continue in our rut being unhappy. Take a moment and ask yourself, “Why do I feel unhappy?” Don’t just blame others for your unhappiness. This is the way of the victim. We repeat to ourselves why things aren’t going our way. We tell ourselves that it isn’t our fault but fate, or God, or someone else and we have no control over our unhappiness. We repeat our “sob story” to anyone who will listen seeking sympathy and understanding. We want justification for our fate in life. It’s time to take control.
Don’t Let Others’ rent Space in Your Head is a book by Gary Coxe. You may find it helpful in dumping unproductive and unhealthy thoughts. You do have control. You just don’t know how. Taking flower essences will help. Connecting with the good in your life will definitely help and sometimes you need to read about what others have done to gain control. You deserve to be healthy and happy! Now, figure out how you are going to achieve it.
Hope you found this helpful.

Herbal eGram #738 Fresh Start!
Good Morning!
The beginning of the year is an opportunity to begin anew! It is common practice to set goals and make resolutions at the beginning of the year. It is also common that by February most of these goals have been dismissed or found unattainable. Why?
To make sure you are successful in following your goals to the completion you desire takes small steps to feel progress along the way. Some things seem unattainable unless you break them down into parts that feel doable. Check out the book: One Small Step can Change Your Life: The Kaizen Way This is a great little book that helps people who tend to “Bite off more than they can chew.” This is a sure way to disappointment and failure.
Before you set those lofty goals take a moment and be silent. Find a place of peace and quiet; take a few deep breaths. Make sure you are comfortable. Close your eyes and examine the goal you had in mind. Is it your goal; or, someone else’s for you? This is important because you will never attain a goal someone else sets for you.
You must feel committed to the success of the goal in mind. Can you see yourself attaining it? Does it feel right? Are you excited about it? These are what help you maintain momentum throughout the process. Write down your goal where you will see it several times a day and keep the excitement alive.
There will be disappointments and pitfalls. You need to make sure you have enough mental energy to carry on. If you are for example, losing weight because someone who cares about you wants that for you…you will fail. You are the one doing the work and therefore it has to be something you want. What is it now that you can’t do that would be improved by losing weight? Look into what healthy people do and match it to what you are doing. What could you change? Don’t do too many things at once. Do something! Keep doing it until it becomes routine and then add.
One easy step is to commit to learning about health. We are told a lot about disease but we aren’t told what “True Health” is. Feeling vibrant and alive is part of it. Happiness is a part of it. Active physically and mentally is a part of it. Getting a good night’s sleep is a big part of being healthy but the big thing is waking up feeling rested! Having good elimination is an important part of being healthy as one has to rid the body of toxins. And equally important is feeding the body healthy nutrition to fuel it. These are all things taught by Health Coaches, Naturopathic doctors and Nutrition experts.
Perhaps having a mentor or someone guiding you and supporting your desire would help. Success, in most instances, depends on having people around us who believe in what we are doing and support us. Positive energy is a basic need when it comes to success. Look at most team sports and find the cheer leaders. They are bouncy and smiling. They are promoting success for their team. You need to find a cheer leader (or two or three!). Someone who believes in you.
Talk to yourself in the mirror! Sometimes we need a good talking to. We slip and have negative thoughts. Go to the nearest mirror and say: Listen, everybody makes mistakes! You are human and that’s what we do as humans. Now, from this moment on we will continue in the successful manner that we have created! I can do this. Begin again. Fresh starts are needed perhaps daily for a while.
Whatever you want to attain add some prayer. If you include the spiritual aspect within you, you will notice a strength that you didn’t know was there. This is a type of energy that surrounds us but most of us don’t tap into it. One way to tap into this field is to use the Flower Essence, Be Courageous! This natural, non-alcoholic remedy has helped thousands of people feel courage. It can help you too.
Find your Fresh Start and perhaps make it a daily event. Start your morning with a new way of looking at life. Get out of the rut and see the change you want to see. Mother Teresa is quoted: “Be Faithful in small things because it is in them that your strength lies.” Take the small steps that lead to big satisfaction. At the end of the day count up those steps you have taken and you will feel encouraged. May 2016 be all that you want it to be!
