Herbal eGram #737 Joyful
Good Morning!
For the most part, the Holiday Season is a joyful one for me. I know it isn’t so for many people and my heart and prayers go out to them. Depression is like being in a dark cloud and trying to fight your way out of it. There are many contributing factors to depression. Sometimes it is being in pain; disappointment; fear and even poor nutrition. The one thing they all have in common is (except for lack of nutrition) wanting to control something you have no control over. You can’t control others. You can only control how you react.
When you go to bed at night think of at least 5 things you experienced that day that brought you joy. Maybe it was a bird or something of nature. Perhaps your pet gave you comfort. Maybe you had something unexpected touch your heart. Look for it during the day. When you start looking for things that help you be happy you seem to find happy things more easily. If you are constantly thinking about how bad things are they seem to multiply. Stuff happens and sometimes it seems to all come at once. Do the best you can to see what good you can derive out of these challenges.
I love being with family and sharing traditions. Sometimes those traditions have evolved, but always with the intent of sharing love and joy. Children grow up and being with them isn’t always possible. They make their own lives. I’m happy as long as I can be involved in their life. I realize I too am getting older and things seem to take a little longer to get done. I’m grateful for being healthy and for the most part can still do much of what I did as tradition during the season. I hope I’ve passed along the joy of the season to my family. Showing love and kindness is the biggest gift of all.
Years ago I learned that if you couldn’t afford anything to give then, give a smile; it costs you nothing! Essential oils can be uplifting. And a little bottle goes a long way! I use them in my hand soap that I make. This is a sneaky way of sharing with others that may help them lift their mood without them even know why they feel a little better. Some of my favorites: Pink Grapefruit, Bergamot, Lemon, Lemongrass, Lavender and Peppermint. Some seasonal favorites: Cinnamon, Pine, Frankincense and Myrrh. These may not have the best scent but they have wonderful healing qualities.
Myrrh and Frankincense were gifts of the Magi to the Christ-child. Myrrh is antimicrobial and can be mixed with Peppermint and Lemon to give off a lovely scent while cleansing a sick room. Myrrh is uplifting and helps with self-esteem. Frankincense is known for helping one get in touch with the inner joy and meditation. It helps lift depression and fights infection while reducing inflammation. Pine is beneficial for the respiratory system and can be added to peppermint—just dab a drop of each onto your palm and rub together then lift your palms up to your nose (close your eyes) and take a lovely deep breath or two.
Cinnamon is a lovely scent and can be dispersed in a diffuser (like the ultrasonic one Sunshine sells). While you’re enjoying the scents (without gaining weight) you are stimulating circulation and banishing bacteria and fungus. It also is reported to calm blood sugar. Add Inspire Blend to the diffuser and you’ll be adding Pink Grapefruit, Lemon, Orange peel, Spearmint Leaf, Bergamot, ginger root and Vanilla. Smells of the season! So warming and lovely! What are some of the things you enjoy during the season?
I love watching the old traditional Christmas movies and marvel at how things have changed. I still feel that people should show respect and caring for others. Since when did it become okay to be mean and rude? Everyone has their challenges and just because they aren’t obvious they shouldn’t be judged as having “it” all.
When you are at peace with yourself it is easy to share that peace with others. It isn’t the other way around that you get peace from others and then you too can be peaceful or joyful. Try to find the joy and peace during this Holiday Season and always. Use whatever essential oils you feel help move you to a happier place. Put on some uplifting music. Being joyful is acting upon and working toward joy. Sometimes it takes a good talking to yourself.
Happy Holidays to you and yours! May 2016 be healthful and prosperous!

Herbal eGram #736 Wishing
Good Morning!
Walt Disney taught us to, “Wish upon a Star” to make our dreams come true. When you’re a child anything seems possible. Even Santa! We wish when we blow out candles and wish each other a good day. Is wishing enough?
As one gets older we start to rely on facts and tangibles. So many of our wishes have gone unheard that we begin to wonder; should we dream at all? Along the way we sometimes forget about hope. Wishing is waiting for someone else to act upon a desire. Hope is being involved in a desire. Hope is about searching for a happier result. Hope involves the Body, Mind and Spirit.
When one is hoping to be well they will eat healthier; take supplements that support better health; exercise and rest etc. They will also immerse themselves in positive thinking and visualize the result they want. They see themselves more fit; out of pain and doing things effortlessly. They determine what healthy people do. Hope means being an active participant in fulfilling one’s desires.
When one hopes for a brighter future they don’t just blame everyone else for the rotten state the world is in…they make a difference in their own circle of influence by helping others attain a better circumstance. Maybe you cannot afford to give like Rockefeller but, you can give your smile to the weary.
You can be an example of hope. Support those who are trying to make a difference instead of bashing them. Years ago people were made fun of if they talked about recycling to “save the planet”. Now, you are looked at as a criminal if you don’t think about recycling and using things that do break down. More and more people are buying organic because they don’t want all the chemicals found in conventionally grown food.
Learning how our body works and how you can assist it in being healthy is a duty we all need to act on. The internet is filled with opinions. Some are factual and some are just there to push product. One of the main reasons why I love Nature’s Sunshine is that their supplements are based on fact and research. All of the herbs have been tested on humans and have found to be beneficial without bad side effects. Do you know that most drugs are taken off the market after about 5 years? Some drugs took longer to withdraw but had serious side effects like death! No herb can create that kind of havoc (at least non NSP would sell).
If you learn how your body works then you can support it in health instead of checking for disease. Medical doctors are trained to check for disease, not health. For example take vitamin D. Most medical doctors are happy with a result of 35 mg/nl. But, the truth of the matter when you check the science: 80-100 mg/nl is desired to prevent osteoporosis and cancer. If you take a natural supplement of D3 there is no harm in taking up to 10,000 IU per day. Most people need only 4,000 IU when taking NSP brand. I’ve seen people be retested after a couple of months and double; sometimes triple their test score!
Most medical doctors will tell you that as you age you need a flu shot. Many reported incidences of seniors who get a flu shot will get sick within a week or two after receiving a vaccine for the flu. Why is that? Most seniors have a compromised immune and/or liver and therefore react poorly to subjecting their body to an invasion of a virus with all the chemicals laced in the shot. Learning how to support your immune system just makes better sense to me. I use Elderberry D3Fence which has D in it as well as herbs that work with my immune system to strengthen it. When my body detects an invasion, it is prepared. I can then choose to add Silver Shield if I feel my immune is compromised.
Doing daily support in addition to a healthy diet is what I do to help my body defend against harmful microbes. I don’t just wish I stay healthy. I have great hope that I will be healthy because I have tools to support better health. Everyone has a responsibility to themselves to maintain as good a health as they can. Stay away from things that bring your resistance down. Wear clothes that match the season. Make sure you don’t get chilled and if you accidentally do…make sure you know how to boost your immune system in health.
Many people feel they have to live with the pain of arthritis because that is the diagnosis they’ve received. There are a lot of tools that can be utilized to first prevent arthritis and secondly to deal more comfortably with it. Do you know them? Right now there are two live classes you can attend to learn how to deal better with arthritis. There is hope! When these classes are over you may be able to attend a webinar and receive the information. If you have arthritis, or know someone who has…don’t just wish you felt better.
I think we need more hope in the world. How about you? The fact that you’ve read this eGram attests to the fact that you agree with me. Continue to seek out the knowledge that is fact based and time tested. Check your resources and make sure they aren’t profit based but their intent is to offer hope for those who want it.

Herbal eGram #735 Cinnamon
Good Morning!
One of the traditions we do every year is make Cinnamon sticky buns from scratch and have them with hot chocolate while watching the Thanksgiving Day parade. My two Michigan granddaughters and I have been doing this for about 10 years. It’s so nice that they enjoy it as much as I do.
When we started I did all the work. Now I just do the clean-up. They knead the dough (we make flour in a mill from wheat berries); they shape the dough and make bread and rolls along with the sticky buns. We love the smell of Cinnamon as it wafts through the air.
Cinnamon is refreshing as well as therapeutic. It is warming and stimulating both physically and emotionally. Many people associate it with food. You can’t pass a Cinnabon place at the mall without smelling it. Those rolls are not healthy like the ones we make with whole wheat, honey and organic walnuts along with the Cinnamon.
In aromatherapy it has been used to reduce drowsiness, irritability, relieve pain from headaches, and helps with better concentration. The essential oil of Cinnamon is quite warming when used topically. It is often added to other oils as a catalyst. NSP’s Inspire Blend adds cinnamon, lemon, pink grapefruit, orange, spearmint, Bergamot, ginger and Vanilla. It is a lovely blend for adding to shower gels or spraying the air. Use it in our new Ultrasonic Diffuser and enjoy it’s pleasant and therapeutic effects.
You can make a poultice using Cinnamon with a little Aloe gel or Silver Shield for relief of muscle spasms and cramping. It is a great addition to any First Aid kit as it can be added to Tea Tree as a great antiviral and antifungal. For every ounce of carrier oil (or gel) you would use 8 drops of essential oil. Since Sunshine uses the leaf which is 80% less irritating than the bark, you generally don’t have to be concerned with reactions but you still wouldn’t use it without a carrier.
Put a few drops of cinnamon oil in some warm water and add a teaspoon of Aloe Vera gel and stir to make a soothing gargle for sore throats. It is antibacterial as well as antiviral so it will topically kill any microbe that would be irritating the throat. It has anti-inflammatory responses as well so it can really help when the throat has become inflamed.
If one has chills: Wet a clean washcloth with hot water add a few drops of cinnamon oil dropping it in several places on the cloth; rub the cloth together mixing the oil and place in on the chest. Cover it with a small towel or hot water bottle and rest for about 10-15 minutes. This will drive the Cinnamon into the chest and warm it and soothe irritation while it kills microbes that may be lowering the immune response. It is a great soothing thing to do if someone has the flu. (Do not use a heating pad.) The smell of Cinnamon is helpful in calming the digestive system. This is not generally recommended for children under 5 years old as the stimulating effects of cinnamon may cause a skin rash.
I love diffusing the scents of Cinnamon, Pine and Lemongrass together to invigorate during this stressful Holiday Season. Great to do this when you come home from work or shopping. Doing things like diffusing essential oils can help de-stress and allow you to enjoy the season more fully. Cinnamon has anti-depressive and analgesic properties and can lift the spirits in subtle ways.

Herbal eGram #734 Back in Business
Good Morning!
For several weeks I have been in the process of healing from a back injury. I feel I’m finally close to being myself again. With Thanksgiving a couple of days away…I have a lot to be grateful for. There are always two or more ways of looking at a situation and I usually try to find the good in it. This positive view of things is one of the motivating factors that helped me move past my pain and toward healing.
Not everyone can do this and some situations are extremely difficult to see any good at all in. Sometimes one needs help in finding out what is causing the pain. I’m just glad I’m back in business! Most of us would rather not go through rough patches. Well, it’s called “life”. It happens and one must figure out what they are supposed to learn from the experience and hope they don’t have to get a reminder. Discouragement is a black hole. One must climb out as quickly as you can because the deeper you go the harder it is to get out.
Something that helps me maintain my positive view is to find things to be grateful for. When I was in my deepest pain I kept thinking…this is temporary; I will get through this. Thinking about at least 5 things you can be grateful for during the day and making a list of those things will help you see the positive view. Maybe its simple things like: having a roof over your head or being warm. Maybe it’s having someone who cares about you. Maybe it’s having food to eat and water to drink. How about having a bed to sleep in and a pillow to rest your head? Try to find the good in things. Give people your smile…it costs you nothing.
While we are speaking of business; I’m very grateful for the knowledge my husband has and his ability to assist my body in healing. I’m also grateful for the things I’ve learned over the ages that helped me get through this ordeal. My family is very important to me and I appreciate their support and all of you for your prayers and good wishes.
I love helping people. Some of you do to. Maybe you think you need a special degree to help people but that isn’t true. The sharing of information can be of great assistance to others. Letting people know where they can find reliable information on natural health products can help people. Finding a good reference book is also a way to help people. I love the Comprehensive Guide to NSP Products as a resource filled with reliable information on how to help people with a variety of concerns. http://treelite.com/proddetail.php?prod=bk-61 This can be purchased in my office for $35
Making a business that includes Nature’s Sunshine Products has been one of the best decisions I’ve made. During the 35 years I’ve been associated with the company I have learned an incredible amount of information including how the body heals when given the right tools. I’m so grateful for NSP for not only having the best quality supplements but also the knowledge they impart. Most of the time it’s totally free! They have week-long webinars twice a year called: Week of Education that can be referenced via the website: http://www.naturessunshine.com/us/members/c1/webinars/
Last Thursday there was a tremendous webinar presented by Dr. Jay Vanden Heuvel about how to use our Silver products to support immune health and healing. Silver is included in the Emergency Rescue Kit available for a short time from NSP. There is a 6oz. bottle of liquid Silver Shield. This can be used to fight against any virus, bacteria or fungal infection…even those that are antibiotic resistant. There is a small tube of gel to use on hands as a sanitizer. A tube of Rescue gel that can assist wound cleaning and healing. There are the usual bandages, gauze pads, tape and emergency paraphernalia. The bag is large enough to fit things like Activated charcoal (anti poison etc.); Slippery Elm to calm intestinal upset; Essential oils like Peppermint and Tei Fu. I will be teaching via some videos on how to use the kit and what to do for certain emergency situations. Stay tuned!
Have a wonderful Thanksgiving and make sure you take your enzymes when you eat!

Herbal eGram #733 Reprieve
Good Morning!
This past weekend we turned back the clocks and we traded lighter mornings for darker evenings. I love the saying that a “First American” is reported saying, “Only a white man could think that by cutting off the top of a blanket and adding it on to the bottom, the blanket could grow longer”. No matter how you cut it the days are going to get shorter (at least until December 22nd or Winter Solstice begins). Then the old saying, “When the days begin to lengthen the winter begins to strengthen” is appropriate.
This week we are having a reprieve from cold weather. Today it will reach close to 70 and is a perfect time to finish digging up tubers and putting gardens to rest. We’ve had some years when there was snow on the ground from October 15th through winter. (Hmmm, is there really global warming or is it the warm front?) Whatever the cause most of us are grateful for the reprieve. Remember to compost those leaves instead of burning them. I’m going to try the black plastic bag method and leave it in my garden over the winter. I’ll let you know how this works next spring.
A health reprieve is when you get a scare and you change your thinking to prevention instead of just maintaining. Maybe it was a possible cardiac concern, cancer, near accident or a test interpreted wrongly. Whatever the reprieve it generally shocks us into thinking perhaps we could do better in creating a healthy body. Most of us just coast along day to day not giving our health the attention it needs. When cancer or a heart attack threatens our life we are shocked into paying more attention. We check out specific diets and exercise. It really makes more sense to spend a half hour or so each day paying attention then to have to suffer through sickness before we attempt to be healthier.
Autumn is a good time to do a cleanse, take stock on preparing for the sedentary months ahead and preparing our immune systems properly. Many people do some kind of cleanse during the autumn months. If you don’t know which one would be appropriate for you, send me an email with some information. You should be achieving a natural bowel movement twice or three times a day. If you aren’t doing that then you definitely need to get things moving.
Clean Start is a good cleanse that helps to detoxify at a cell level. There is a packet with fiber and clay to help draw out toxins. You need to make sure you are drinking plenty of water to flush out the toxins (half your body weight in ounces of purified water). Adding some liquid chlorophyll to that water will help cleanse the blood and take the load off of the liver and kidneys. If you are concerned about having cramping or gas then the Clean Start Mild might be a better option for you. The magnesium in this cleanse is helpful in relaxing the bowel to go without stimulating peristalsis. If you are a slow mover this won’t be as beneficial as the Clean Start regular.
Tiao He Cleanse is a great liver cleanse that helps to remove toxins from the liver and blood. It has some fiber in it but doesn’t stimulate peristalsis as much as Clean Start. It does however mean taking a lot of capsules in a day. It too requires a great deal of drinking water to flush out toxins.
Eating two apples a day and flushing with chlorophyll water is a good way to begin a cleanse if you’ve never done one. Try doing this for about a week and then try the Clean Start cleanse. If at any time you are uncomfortable, stop the cleanse and just drink lots of water. I feel that every whole body cleanse should be accompanied by taking probiotics both before bed and upon rising to create the right environment in the intestines. In fact, I take two probiotics each morning every day as part of my prevention routine.
To support immune health I like to use Olive Leaf Extract during the months between April and September. In October I switch to Elderberry D3fense as it has a good amount of vitamin D in it and in the winter we don’t get much (if any) sunshine. There is no toxic load as far as research states for overdoing vitamin D3 as long as you are getting a natural source of D3 such as Nature’s Sunshine’s.
I feel that children can use the Heroes brand of Elderberry chews. Elderberry fruit contains flavonoids—antioxidants that help support the immune system. Elderberry has been widely studied and found to boost the immune system. A randomized double-blind, placebo-controlled study found that people who received elderberry extract had significantly stronger immune system response compared to a placebo group. NSP combines Elderberry with vitamin C, zinc, astragalus, maitake mushroom and puts it in a blend of fruit and veggies making this whole food (no dyes or sugar) supplement that can assist children in staying healthy during the winter months. This doesn’t replace a multi vitamin and mineral.
Reprieve can also be a time of reflection. Take a few minutes and picture what it is you want and having the energy to propel you toward your goals. Maybe a cleanse should include the flower essence Release It as this helps to dump old emotional baggage that isn’t serving us in our goal to be healthier. Whatever steps you take try being consistent for a specified time and after jump starting your health regimen keep consistent in focusing on health. I love using the Sunshine Rewards monthly shipping program as it keeps me getting a constant flow of supplies that help keep me healthy. I can change it up to 5 days before it ships in case I need something different such as a cleanse pack or different supplement.
Enjoy your reprieve!

Herbal eGram #732 Burning Leaves
Good Morning!
In most areas it is illegal to burn leaves. There may be several reasons for this including the health of the environment and you. There may (in some areas) be fire hazards as well. The ash that forms is blown by the wind and can become fertilizer to nearby lakes and streams causing undesirable weeds to grow.
The main concerns I want to discuss are the effects of hydrocarbons. Hydrocarbons are released into the air contributing to allergy symptoms, breathing problems and yes, even cancer. The smoke irritates the eyes, nose and delicate mucus membranes. The air can carry the cancer promoting ash for a very long distance contributing to air pollution.
Before I knew about the toxic effect of burning leaves I used to love the smell and equated it with the season of autumn. I now find it offensive that the occasional clear day is blotted by the smoke of some neighbor who decides to burn leaves which are usually damp and fill the air with black heavy smoke.
The ash can accumulate in the lungs for years without any way of cleansing them. If you are a runner and you breathe through your mouth the danger is doubly so because the nose has hair that can trap these particles but the mouth doesn’t and you swallow them irritating the membranes of the esophagus, stomach lining and intestines.
“Huge amounts of air pollution are produced worldwide by the annual burning of 3 billion metric tons of biomass such as wood, leaves, trees, grass and trash (Abelson). Biomass burning represents the largest source of air pollution in many rural areas of the developed and developing world.” Clean air is something we all need to protect for future generations. We need to live responsibly and using those leaves to mulch and create compost is a much better expenditure of this resource.
Wet leaves harbor a mold that doesn’t get killed off when burned. The spores can go airborne and be breathed in contributing to asthma and allergic responses. So, you may think you have a cold when, in fact, you’re dealing with the results of walking through piles of dying leaves. Leaf molds feed on dead leaves and reproduce by sending spores into the air, to travel, settle and grow. The health symptoms of mold allergies arise when people breathe in these microscopic allergens. Physical symptoms that come on after raking or walking through leaves can be attributed to mold with some certainty. Nevertheless, patients can experience respiratory problems or itching anytime outdoor air carries high levels of invisible mold spores.
Taking a supplement that helps to kill off mold such as Silver Shield daily will go a long way in helping your immune system. Daily use of Silver in this nano-form can protect the body against viruses, harmful bacteria and mold. The small particulate known as “nano” can actually enter the blood stream and attach itself to mold spores stopping the allergic response from being mounted by the immune system. In this way the body can eliminate the harmful organism without you even having symptoms that your defense system is carrying out its duty keeping you healthy.
When you add toxins to this environment and the intake of the high amount of sugar consumed during Halloween, you have a perfect storm for Candida overgrowth. Cleansing from systemic yeast can be tricky but NSP has a wonderful answer to that called Candida Clear. It is a two week cleanse that helps the body rid itself of unwanted yeast, mold and fungus. You can then maintain with daily use of Silver Shield to support immune health during the challenging seasons of fall and winter.
Wouldn’t it be nice to have the Holiday Season a healthy one!

Herbal eGram #731 Blind Faith
Good Morning!
Before the 60’s, American’s took medications for a condition and that was that. There weren’t long term medications. When you got sick you went to the doctor and he/she prescribed something it was only temporary. You took it for a condition and when the condition ended you stopped taking it. Pharmaceuticals were never studied for long term use because that wasn’t their intent. A new mind set was developing and demand was high.
This era brought birth control pills. We wanted sex without worrying about babies. It was a revolution in which women didn’t have to worry about pregnancy. Along with the idea that sex didn’t have to end up in pregnancy came the idea of a freedom. People took advantage of this freedom to loosen their ideals. “Free Love!” became the motto. But it wasn’t free because although there weren’t pregnancies there was disease.
There were pills to soothe nerves and Valium became king. These drugs were touted to the general population and mass-marketed and prescribed by doctors with what many claimed was blithe abandon. While the youth of America were smoking joints and tripping on acid, their parents’ generation of businessmen and housewives were downing an unprecedented number of sedatives. According to the Canadian Government Commission of Inquiry into the Nonmedical Use of Drugs (1972), “In 1965 in the USA, some 58 million new prescriptions and 108 million refills were written for psychotropes (sedatives, tranquilizers, and stimulants), and these 166 million prescriptions accounted for 14% of the total prescriptions of all kinds written in the United States.” Physical and psychological addiction followed for many.
Pills to help with blood pressure and heart problems were developed. It was a magic time…pills to make you forget and pills to keep you going. Many of these pills were poorly studied for long term use. People demanded to have them. Safety was not an issue. We wanted to have lots of energy without letting our body rest and eat right; we thought pills were the answer to everything. We wanted the shortcut that drugs offered because we were given to believe they were safe and couldn’t cause long term damage.
In this time many medications were discovered and thought to be miracle cures. Take Thalidomide for example: it stopped nausea! So, naturally doctors thought of pregnant women and how wonderful it would be for them not to have to go through pregnancy being sick day and night. We now know this was a horrible mistake. Many babies were born with deformed limbs due to this mistake. This discovery wasn’t overnight. Thousands of women took this magic pill in blind faith. They were delighted with the results—no more nausea. But what a price to pay!
Today you hear about our children being the sickest on the planet. Diabetes, obesity and elevated blood pressure typically emerge in middle-age, but more young children are showing signs of chronic conditions that may take a toll on their health. These children are “Sick Before their Time”, reports Time Magazine. Poor diet, lack of exercise and many other things are contributing to these chronic illnesses that children should not be experiencing. We have put our faith in a medical paradigm that has failed us and many doctors are stepping up and admitting there must be a change. They too were victims of Blind Faith in trusting the pharmaceutical industry to find answers for what ails us. It is time we took back control of our health.
In 1969, the U.S. Department of Defense requested $10 million from Congress to develop a synthetic biological agent to which no natural immunity existed. Funding soon followed under the supervision of the CIA at Fort Detrick, MD. What is going on behind closed doors? Are we human guinea pigs? Do we blindly trust those in authority? It is sad that maybe we can’t. The FDA has ties to the pharmaceutical industry and they are allowing drugs to be sanctioned based on clinical trials that the drug company does by faking the evidence. What is worse is that if something goes wrong you can no longer sue them. They have the government backing as well.
What can you do? You can do what has been time tested as safe from the beginning. Eat healthy food (you know what this is); get plenty of exercise and fresh air and proper rest; think happy thoughts; drink the purest water you can find and supplement because you simply can’t get it all in food. The continuous battle is to stay balanced. Just as a teeter totter tips from one side to the other, we are faced with challenges that do the same to our health. Learn what you can to support your weak areas. Take classes. Study about health and not sickness. Focus on what you are doing that may be interfering with your health and change it. Take a health quiz if you don’t know where to start.

Stop taking things and doing things simply on Blind Faith! Understand what you are putting in your body and investigate it thoroughly. It is your body and it is time to take back your health along with the responsibility for the way you feel.

Herbal eGram #730 I want it all!
Good Morning!
Years ago there was a TV program that would have a child come up from the audience to the stage. He/she would be allowed to dip their fist into a fishbowl filled with coins. It was rather funny to see that the empty fist could enter the bowl quite easily but when filled with coins the child could not remove the fist. They eventually figured out they would have to drop sufficient coins to be able to pull their hand out and still make off with more than what they came on stage with. Sometimes life is like that.
Do you own your stuff or does your stuff own you? This is tricky because sometimes we get quite attached to our stuff and become devastated when it is gone (for whatever reason be it a natural disaster or circumstance). You may want to set aside this thought and chew on it at another time but chew you should. We need to realize we are not our stuff! That includes any disease symptoms we may have. If you make the statement, “my arthritis” you are claiming it as your own and it becomes your stuff. Better to say, “The pain I am experiencing right now”.
The longer one has had pain the more we seem to own it. The same goes with depression. I’ve worked with people who cannot remember when they felt happy. When the body starts healing it does so in increments that may be too small to measure as improvement if you haven’t first recognized where you are when you begin. This is where journaling comes in. You can write exactly how you feel; how you’ve slept; what steps you took to take care of yourself that day; what you did that gave you a feeling of peace etc.
When your goal is to get healthy you have to make a conscious effort. You have to pay attention to what you are eating and drinking and if you are sleeping well. These things are necessary in the repair and well-being of our body. Just as a car needs maintenance and certain fuel—so do we!
We need to give our body the tools it needs for repair such as proper nutrients, water, air and healthy thoughts. If we are constantly thinking about how awful our life is it will continue to be awful. Make an effort to find good things. Enjoy the beautiful sunshine when it is here. Admire the colors of the leaves and the flowers still blooming. Take a deep breath, relax your shoulders and feel still. Using an essential oil such as Lavender will help. The better the oil the better you will feel. I only use NSP’s guaranteed pure essential oils because I deserve the best to help my body function at top level performance. How about you?
Basic daily nutrition may include a smoothie packed with healthy vitamins, minerals, complex carbohydrates and proteins that will help build muscle and connective tissue. I love our Nature’s Harvest. I add kale/watermelon cubes that I made out of blending fresh kale and watermelon and then freezing them in ice cube trays. I then pop them into a zip lock bag and put two or three into my smoothie to add extra flavor and nutrition. I usually will add some Greek yogurt and chia. There are all kinds of choices of frozen fruit to change up the flavor. This is a great way to begin a busy day!
When you understand that the body can heal itself (in most cases) if given the right tools and time and you implement these changes, wonderful things begin to occur. You will notice that you have more energy and you begin to see the world differently. I have seen this happen so many times. It begins with recognizing what you are doing isn’t working and then figuring out what you are willing to implement. Perhaps it is an essential oil or flower essence to help you understand you are worth it!
Learn all you can about your symptoms and view them as messages that your body is trying to relate to a need. When you discover the need and act on it, the message is no longer heard. For example: if you are gluten intolerant and your body tells you through discomfort in digestion and with inflammation and you ignore the message a couple of things will happen. The message will become louder (increasing inflammation and pain) hoping you will pay attention. If you still don’t stop eating the gluten and try to repair the gut worse symptoms and possibly more symptoms will arise. You may try to block the pain with medication, but that doesn’t address the message, “you are doing something that is creating inflammation”.
If you need help in identifying which steps you need to take, see a qualified health professional who is versed in natural health solutions. You can also take online classes like those Nature’s Sunshine offers free on a variety of health subjects. These webinars are given by experts who are knowledgeable in answers to many health concerns and the suggestions are often easy to follow.
I hope this message has helped you in some way recognize that it’s okay to dump some of the stuff we have in our life that just isn’t working. That may include some of the food we enjoy. Try giving yourself a break from that food for two weeks and see if the pain is worth the taste.

Herbal eGram #729 Pissed Off Moments
Good Morning!
You Tube has a video of “Steve Jobs—Pissed Off Moments”. In it he realizes that he can’t give his presentation because so many people in the audience are on the internet and there isn’t enough strength for him to present his work. I love the way he handles the situation telling everyone, “you can either all stay on the internet and I don’t give my presentation, or you can police each other by making sure everyone closes their laptops and cell phones”. It took a bit of time but eventually he was able to get people to shut down their devices. Not everyone can be calm while pissed off. (Excuse me for the vulgarity of the verbiage).
Most of us will just let the frustration build until we blast our anger out. Often this is unproductive and caustic. We often say things we don’t mean, or include events that have no association with what we really are upset about. And if we really examined why we are angry we’d realize that the anger is frustration due to feelings we have of doubt or fear. Maybe we doubt our ability to act on certain situations. Maybe we are afraid that if we say something about what really is bothering us we won’t like the consequences. So inactivity is what we end up doing.
We withhold saying something because we feel that the other person should “figure it out”. Then we get frustrated because they can’t read our mind. Perhaps this has happened to you and you can relate to a certain time where you withheld saying something for fear you would upset the person with whom you are needing to talk to about a delicate subject. So you go on pretending you’re not bothered, but you really are and all the time your poor bladder is taking the brunt of your anger.
In doing the emotional healing work that I do the energy of the bladder is associated with the type of anger we call being “pissed off”. If one is unable to express this anger in a productive way they often will deal with an inability to release acids that accumulate in the bladder contributing to infection and inflammation. This in turn, creates a burning sensation when urinating. It becomes a cycle of not wanting to urinate because it burns and needing to because you are uncomfortable.
Drinking water will help but examining your frustration and journaling about it helps release the pent up anger. Water will help dilute the acids and make it easier to flow. Reasoning says, “if I drink water it will make me go and when I go it burns”. Just push through that and drink.
I have also found that taking the supplement Cranberry/Buchu helps rebalance the health of the urinary tract. Take it for a month for every year you’ve been “pissed off”. If you are frustrated every day with your job and you’ve had your job for 3 years you should take the supplement for 3 months etc. Usually people don’t have to take it for more than 6 months no matter how long they’ve been frustrated if they also journal; perhaps see a therapist who works with emotional healing; and you drink plenty of purified water.
Inflammation in the bladder is not healthy. Inflammation is heat and when you have heat you can damage tissue. The longer the acid and heat remain in an area the more subject you are to infection and the longer the damaged tissue is present, the more you are apt to invite more and more severe conditions such as Interstitial Cystitis or even cancer. The urinary system is the way the body gets rid of excess acids. Making sure your thinking doesn’t contribute to the acids will go a long way in keeping your bladder and kidneys healthy.
Negative thinking and obsessing about those times of frustration can contribute to irritation of the bladder. Make sure you catch yourself in the act of these cycling thoughts. Using Pink Grapefruit essential oil can help you move that energy quickly. You can just sniff it right from the bottle or make a roll-on (1 oz to 10 drops of Pink Grapefruit in a roll-on applicator) and apply it to the pulse points of your wrist then breathe in deeply this uplifting scent. You can also think peaceful thoughts while doing this and pretty soon you will be amazed how much better you feel.
Don’t let other people rent space in your head! This is actually the title of a book by Gary Coxe. We all do it! We think of things other people have done and we obsess about it. All the while the other person has no clue. The only one we are hurting is our self! Kick those thoughts out. I’ve given you some tips on how to do it. The more frustrated you feel, the more things you need to do to get back into balance: water, journal, therapy, essential oils and supplements! They are all there to help you.
