Herbal eGram #833 Dandelion
Good Morning!
This morning I was out weeding and picked some dandelion leaves and when I came in to eat my breakfast, I put them in my scrambled eggs. They were delicious so I thought I would write about the value of these "weeds". Every part of the dandelion is edible (except for the puff ball of seeds). The flowers are delicious with chopped up potatoes and green peppers. Here's a recipe for batter-fried dandelion flowers: https://food52.com/recipes/11680-pan-fried-dandelion-flowers.
Many of the weeds we commonly pull are not only nutritious but healthy for us. We use things like thyme, rosemary, basil, sage etc in our cooking; why not weeds? Of course you wouldn't want to use them if sprayed but we don't treat our weeds so they are organic. Dr. Mercola states: "The fact is the greens of the humble dandelion provide 535 percent of the recommended daily value of vitamin K, which may be the most important source of any other plant-based food to strengthen bones, but may also play a role in fighting Alzheimer's disease by limiting neuron damage in the brain."
What's really nice is that they are FREE and plentiful! Many of our greats (grandparents) used to make wine and delicious cordials from dandelion flowers. Here is a recipe: https://www.epicurious.com/recipes/food/views/dandelion-wine-51176210 Fermented foods have a value on their own and an occasional cordial could be a fun way to imbibe. Other flowers can be used as fun ways to make wines and surprise your friends. Once made it only takes a few shakes every day for a couple of weeks and then strain the delicious flavor and serve cold.
The young greens are a great addition to a salad. I like to add flowers to my salads and a few of my favorite are violets, pansies, nasturtium, marigolds and even geraniums. The petals add a lovely color and lots of beta carotene. Enjoy perking up your salads with free garden pickings. Herbs like dill and fennel add a feathery touch to dress up your plate just as parsley does. They also aid in digesting your food.
Using herbs is getting more and more popular! Find ways to forage and use herbs, plants and petals to make your meals more interesting. Children love foraging with you. My grandchildren have grown up grazing my herb garden. One of my fondest memories of my two granddaughters (particularly Sarah) eating chives and peppermint and finding ways to add the peppermint to water. We also have lemon balm and this is great to add to water or make a tea from.
Teas are easy to make. You simply rinse the leaves and put them into a pint mason jar. Add water to the packed leaves and steep for about 5 minutes. Strain the mixture and add a pinch of honey. It is very refreshing and has many health benefits. Most leaves have special benefits but all are rich in vitamins and minerals. The roots are a little more difficult to clean. I sit them in warm water with a little Sunshine Concentrate for about five minutes. Then take a soft brush and scrub off any dirt. Cutting the root in small pieces helps to get the nutrients out. Add to the jar and make as above.
A study in 2011 involving the testing of dandelion root tea showed there may be a "kill switch" on leukemia cell receptors through a process called apoptosis. Researchers reported that dandelion root tea didn’t seem to send the same “kill” message to healthy cells. The study concluded that dandelion root extract may prove to be a non-toxic alternative to conventional leukemia therapy. Dandelion root extract also showed itself to be a possible cancer fighter, halting the growth of melanoma cells without inducing toxicity in non-cancerous cells – even those cells considered to be drug-resistant. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/20849941, Aug. 2012
Dandelion greens also give the body 112 percent of the daily minimum requirement of vitamin A as an antioxidant carotenoid, which is particularly good for the skin, mucus membranes and vision. A flavonoid called zeaxanthin protects the retina from UV rays, while others, primarily carotene, lutein, and cryptoxanthin, protect the body from lung and mouth cancers. Dandelion greens are high in fiber, which helps your body shed waste. These greens also contain vitamins C and B6, thiamin, riboflavin, calcium, iron (crucial for generating red blood cells), potassium (to help regulate heart rate and blood pressure), and manganese. Other nutrients present in dandelion greens include folate, magnesium, phosphorus, and copper.
Forage for food and save money! Most of the time you can find these in your own front yard. If you live in an apartment you can purchase a "salad bowl" which is a container that you can grow lettuce in. The farmer's market near me sells them and it is so much fun to tear off some leaves and add them to a sandwich. Adding nutrition and raw food to your diet doesn't have to cost a lot. These run about $8 and you have lettuce for months!
Hope you enjoy new ways to get nutrition from the weeds around you.

Herbal eGram #832 Keep Cool!
Good Morning!
Here in the Midwest we are experiencing hot temperatures. I'm not a fan of hot. I couldn't live in Florida, Arizona or Texas in the summer. All I want to do is sit in air conditioning. Even when I get out early in the morning to check my gardens and do a little planting, it is too hot for me to enjoy it. My perfect temperature is low 70's. Since I can't always have the desirable temperature, I look for things to keep my cool.
Peppermint essential oil is one thing that helps me think of being refreshed. You can make a spritzer of it by filling a 2 ounce spray bottle with purified water and 10 drops of peppermint essential oil. I like to add a teaspoon of Silver Shield to this and it can be a hand sanitizer at the same time. When spraying it on your face, make sure your eyes are closed as the peppermint can cause them to water. Take a deep breath and inhale the droplets. This will not only help cool you down but also it will support your immune system. I also like Lemon! You can also add a teaspoon of Nature's Fresh to keep the droplets of oil emulsified. Adding a dropperful of Keep Cool is a great suggestion as well.
To drink: Thai Go Lemonade or chlorophyll water are great suggestions. I never drink carbonated beverages as they seem to bother my digestion. Chlorophyll from Nature's Sunshine has a minty flavor that can be quite quenching and supports healthy energy production. Chlorophyll ES is a concentrated paraben free formula and is helpful in blood cleansing and reducing odors. Thai Go lemonade is: One ounce of Thai Go to one squeezed lemon to one quart of purified water. Pour it over ice and cool down.
Keep Cool is a flower essence that helps us maintain our cool when something has upset us. Getting angry at someone is often a clue that there are some deeper triggers that need to be addressed. It is generally not what is happening now but a combination of today's triggering something from our past. Keep Cool helps us to remain calm so that we can figure out what is making us so angry. It can sometimes help us see the other persons viewpoint and create empathy.
Calendula, Snap Dragon, Vine, Impatiens, Willow, Holly and Tiger Lily are included in the formula all to help encourage healthy relationship, dispel feelings of anxiety and anger, and understanding that change is always happening. Vibrational medicine is a very important part of healing as, I believe, emotions are very important in the healing process and that unresolved emotions contribute to 90 percent of the conditions one deals with. For a full explanation of the benefits of Keep Cool formula: http://hartonweb.com/nsp-herbs/bornforhealth.com/?sn=8784
Nature's Sunshine has 7 wonderfully effective flower essences that help us move negative energy and keep us from being stuck in a mood that is keeping us from being happy. Often you may need help in moving stuck emotions but the flower essences can be very beneficial in balancing the body. Distress Remedy is very much like Bach's Rescue but it has no alcohol and it has an added ingredient: Arnica! If you've used Arnica homeopathically, you know that it is a wonderful pain killer. Emotional pain can be just as hard on the body and having an essence that you can drop onto your tongue and feel calm in the midst of trauma, is most helpful. Everyone should have at least one of these on hand as we never know when trauma will happen.
I hope you can Keep Cool with some of the suggestions I've made and perhaps you can email me some of your favorite herbal suggestions for keeping cool.

Herbal eGram #830 Zinc and cancer!
Good Morning!
In doing some research for my class this coming Saturday on Fungus --friend or foe, I came across some very interesting information in regards to Zinc that you probably will never hear from the National Cancer Society. According to the "Truth About Cancer" website, Zinc has the ability to reduce risk and development of many cancers including esophageal, bladder, breast, skin, prostate and head and neck.
It supports the p53 Gene which protects against the most prevalent of cancers; breast and prostate. Zinc also encourages cancer cell death, known as apoptosis. P53 is also known as TP53 or tumor protein (EC :2.7.1.37) is a gene that codes for a protein that regulates the cell cycle and hence functions as a tumor suppression. It is very important for cells in multicellular organisms to suppress cancer. So this is a gene we want expressed to help our immune system fight cancer.
The intestines are called the “second brain” because they are home to approximately 85% of your immune system. Interestingly, most of your emotions are processed in the intestines not in the brain. This is why when you cannot process your emotions properly, you become sick to your stomach. Some people eat more than they should due to stress and other people cannot eat because the food becomes toxic due to the emotional environment in the gut. These unresolved conflicts weaken the intestines allowing for disease to take over.
To survive, these compromised tissue cells must either mutate to match the frequency of the fungus, become anaerobic, make sugar their number one food source, or die of suffocation and starvation. The main objective of any and all living organisms is survival. For their survival your cells will choose mutation over death, whenever possible. To mutate, they must switch their energy production from an oxygen-based system to one that does not use or need oxygen. Once mutated into cancer cells, they no longer use oxygen to generate their energy from food molecules. A cancer cell’s main food source is sugar. What a coincidence − the same fungus that caused these tissue cells to mutate into cancer cells is feeding the cancer cells with its sugary-like waste (poop).
There have been quite a few studies linking Yeast overgrowth and cancer development. Sugar encourages yeast imbalance and in this country, we are sugarholics. Over 40 years ago Jack LaLanne talked to us about eating too much sugar and how it was ruining our health. It still is. Many older people eat cereal for dinner. No wonder we have an epidemic of Diabetes in this country and at younger and younger ages. Drinking sugary sports drinks and so-called "Energy bars" that are loaded with sugar. We need to pay attention to what we are feeding our body so that we can obtain and maintain better health.
Quick and easy protein shakes made from healthy proteins such as yellow peas, soy or whey that is organic are good choices to start your day. NSP has a shake mix that has less than 1 gm of sugar and tastes great. You can add frozen fruit or drink it as is. It is a great way to start your day. If you want to go more ketogenic, you can add an avocado and coconut oil. Alone it is packed with good healthy nutrition. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day and this is perfect for those who don't have time to cook. A piece of toast doesn't make for a healthy breakfast...do an InForm smoothie and watch your energy levels sustain.
Zinc can be found in a stand-alone product but it is also part of the Yeast Fungal Detox recipe that Sunshine has and I've used to help people discourage Candida and other yeast imbalances. If you have achy joints, poor memory, frequent colds or flu, Insomnia, Skin rashes, Loss of Libido and slow thinking--you might consider doing a zinc supplement or do a bottle of the Yeast Fungal Detox and try going without sugar for a few weeks. Track how you feel. Ask yourself how do you want to feel?

Herbal eGram #829 Morels!
Good Morning!
A few years back a friend of mine and I were working in my yard when he came over to tell me he saw what he thought might be a Morel Mushroom. So, I went over to the tree he was working under and yes! There it was a beauty of a Morel. Thank you, Mike for finding it. None have grown since but it is fun to hunt these down. Since they are quite distinctive, you don't have to know a lot about them to hunt them and enjoy their unique flavor. Here is a guide just in case you are interested: https://www.fieldandstream.com/articles/hunting/2013/04/finding-cooking-morel-mushrooms#page-2
Because I'm not confident yet, I don't often eat what I forage but I'm totally interested in seeing what chefs do with unusual foraged ingredients and what benefits they have when adding them to our diet. Recently I watched a show from Britain where a chef used sea buckthorn in a pudding with lemon. Sea Buckthorn in quite bitter and is known medicinally for its antioxidant benefits. Carotenoids, including beta carotene, lycopene, zeaxanthine; these contribute the yellow-orange-red colors of the fruit and the yellows seem to be quite beneficial for eye, liver and skin health.
Sea Buckthorn can help with erosion problems and is looked at as an answer in Canada for conservation as well as medicinal use. NSP has Sea Buckthorn in the product Thai Go which is a high antioxidant drink that has many health benefits and is recommended for daily use as part of a healthy diet.
Medicinal mushrooms such as Reishi, Maitake, Shitake and Cordyceps are well known for their health benefits in supporting immune functions. Cordyceps has been shown in studies to help support the immune system against the ravages of chemo therapy. There is strong evidence that it may also protect against tumor growth and improve cellular immunological function. These mushrooms can be found in the product Nature's Immune Stimulator and is often taken by those people who want to bounce back from cancer therapy.
In our May Herbal Hour I will be discussing Fungus, Friend or Foe? And I'm researching the many benefits of medicinal mushrooms and the fungus we acquire when our body is out of balance. You may experience mushrooms growing in your yard. They can sometimes pop up overnight it seems. There is speculation that when the Bible speaks of manna in the dessert, it may have been mushrooms that popped up to feed the masses. I enjoy eating mushrooms but I know they aren't to everyone's taste.
What is the difference between Fungus, Moss, Mold and algae? Moss and mold may look similar, but they are from different parts of life's kingdom. Moss is a plant that converts sunlight and dissolved soil minerals into the energy it needs to grow and reproduce. Mold is a fungus, neither plant nor animal, and distantly related to mushrooms. It converts decaying organic matter into the energy the mold needs to live and reproduce. Unlike moss, mold doesn't need sunlight to live.
The green of moss is from chlorophyll which is a very beneficial element for humans as well as plants. Moss isn't aquatic but algae is. Moss has no actual root system. They live close to the surface and gather their energy from the sun and moisture that is absorbed through being so dense; like a carpet and is used often in between rocks to help keep the rocks in place and add color. Without going too much further into botany, let's discuss the medicinal qualities of both.
Heperzine A is derived from club moss and medicinally known to protect the brain. We have this in the product Brain Protex. I have personally used this product for the past 10 years and I feel it helps to keep my brain healthy. There are studies that show it can protect against stroke and support better cognitive thinking. Another moss I use is Irish Moss in lotion form. I love the way this makes my skin feel and many who have irritated skin have reported back to me that it has made quite a difference in helping their skin heal.
Algae is very beneficial. One of the most recognized is Klamath Lake Blue-green algae because it is rich in all 22 amino acids, but Spirulina is quite popular also. It is a fresh water algae with approximately 65-71% protein. So, vegetarians find this a very good source to get the needed amino acids to build muscle and strength. Another factor is that it is rich in B12; a vitamin difficult to find in the vegetable category.
I hope you've learned some good information and can see where fungus can be a benefit to your health. What form interests you? If you don't like the taste you do have the option of taking them in capsule form. NSP was the first company to encapsulate herbs because it made it much easier for people to comply. Swallowing liquid herbs can be tedious and nasty. I love my NSP products and appreciate their quality.
Keeping healthy takes dedication. It doesn't just happen and it isn't about being lucky. You must pay attention to your body and attend classes so that you can be a better guardian to your health.

Herbal eGram #828 It's Golden!
Good Morning!
An alkaloid found in the roots of Goldenseal; Oregon grape, and Coptis has drawn considerable attention in medical science. It's golden color reminding us of sunny days and delicious spicy tastes like turmeric has some significant health benefits. Some have noticed better blood sugar levels and others a decrease in belly fat.
Berberine seems to have the highest rating of the alkaloids and studies confirm it can activate the AMPk (enzyme) to significantly reduce fasting and postprandial (after-eating) blood glucose levels in a similar manner as Metformin. The best part there are no side effects only further benefits!
Since it helps to activate the AMPk (which is found in every cell and serves as a "master regulating switch" in energy production) the processes and functions it can support are huge. This switch regulates signals for inflammation; cholesterol; obesity; nerve energy and even how fast we age. It can affect the time it takes to heal from injury or surgery. Double blind studies have shown berberine to be effective against diarrheas caused by different types of parasites and infectious organisms including E.coli (traveler's diarrhea), Shigella dysenteriae, Salmonella (food poisoning), Giardia and many more. This would definitely be a good supplement to take on vacations.
Many others have noticed their gut seems happier. Science shows that Berberine can have a positive effect on the environment of the intestinal system; providing significant antibacterial and antimicrobial activity while promoting beneficial bacteria and good gut health. Creating a healthy gut and working on cells to become more insulin receptive is Golden for our health.
There have been some significant studies on some animal studies that shows promise for PTSD and stress-induced psychiatric disorders that can develop due to traumatic and life-threatening events. There is an animal model of PTSD which involves a maze test and increased fear conditioning. Researchers at a major university in Seoul, South Korea had found that berberine may be useful for treating drug addiction such as cocaine and morphine through the PTSD model. To test their hypothesis they measured several anxiety-related behavioral responses to examine the effects of berberine on symptoms after a single anxiety stress exposure. The rats could navigate the maze and open field tests. But even more amazing: it helped those rats who had previously been traumatized and restored the main neuro-chemical abnormalities in the PTSD model.
The scientists were amazed and stated this was simply incredible. Further support and advantages of adding this ancient remedy to those who have anxiety but since the pathway is used by many drugs it is important to have some tests run and monitor how the drug may be more effective when using Berberine. It has been shown to enhance oral hypoglycemic drugs used to treat type 2 Diabetes. When Berberine is used it also produces significant inhibition of CYP3A enzymes which is the pathway most drugs use for metabolism and can therefore decrease the clearance of many medications potentiating their effect. In other words, it can stay in your system longer.
Close monitoring is advised if you are on medications. Keeping a log of how you are feeling and the dosage of medication, as well as Berberine is suggested. If you see that you are needing less of the medication, bring your log to the doctor and they can evaluate if a lesser dose is needed. Don't take yourself off of medication without first discussing it with your doctor. The body becomes used to having certain medications and going off of them can be problematic.
If you are presently dealing with a lot of inflammation and anxiety, Berberine may be a good place to start. Take one or two capsules away from medication. Generally you want to take supplements with food so they can be buffered and digested better. I've been taking Berberine IR for over a year and find that it may be one of the contributing factors to me healing so fast and supporting healthy blood sugar and gut balance. As an antibacterial and antimicrobial the studies are quite conclusive in helping the body resist Candida and yet exerts no action against health promoting bacterial species such as Lactobacilli and Bifidobacter species.
In this case, silence is not golden--Berberine is so spread the word!

Herbal eGram #827 Meet Your Interstitium
Good Morning!
On Saturday I presented a class on the Lymphatic system. On Sunday my husband sent me a link to a brand new organ discovery. This new organ is vast as it connects all the organs and systems of the body via a fluid called the interstial fluid. They've previously only been able to view tissue slides by dehydrating them. But, recently they've been able to freeze them and then study them. By doing this they've discovered the fluid that connects the Lymphatic system with the rest of the body.
This is an amazing discovery in so many ways and what I presented on Saturday has even greater influence on how we can positively affect our health by taking care of our Lymphatic System (click on link for audio class).
With all that's known about human anatomy, you wouldn't expect doctors to discover a new body part in this day and age. But now, researchers say they've done just that: They've found a network of fluid-filled spaces in tissue that hadn't been seen before. These fluid-filled spaces were discovered in connective tissues all over the body, including below the skin's surface; lining the digestive tract, lungs and urinary systems; and surrounding muscles, according to a new study detailing the findings, published March 27 in the journal Scientific Reports.
What does this mean to you? For one thing; this is a new way to look at how cancer forms in the body. This may be the pathway that spreads cancer cells from one area of the body to another. Keeping the interstitial fluid clean may be one of the keys to preventing cancer and other diseases from spreading. Since in is mostly made up of water, making sure it has the ability to drain the toxins and to properly cushion the muscles and organs it surrounds is of utmost importance.
Liquid chlorophyll is known for its blood purifying ability. Making sure you drink lots of water and adding some chlorophyll to it might show great benefit in supporting the interstitial fluid. The report mentioned that this fluid acts like a shock absorber and if there isn't enough water in it, it makes sense that it would be less effective. The formula for adequate drinking water is take your body weight and divide it by 2 and that is how many ounces of water you should drink every day. (exp: 150 pounds drink 75 ounces).
The lymphatic system is linked to the limbic system of the body and this is where aromatherapy works. When you smell an essential oil the limbic system carries it to the amygdala and then it raises the vibratory rate of the body to balance and help heal. Frankincense is reported to have a vibratory rate of 147MHz while anything above 60-80 is beneficial for the body. Colds and flu begin at a vibratory rate between 57-60.
Most essential oils have high vibratory rates and so pick one that you like and start smelling it when you feel low energy or the beginning of a cold or flu. Essential oils start at 52 Hz and go as high as 320 Hz, which is the frequency of rose oil. Clinical research shows that essential oils have the highest frequency of any natural substance known to man, creating an environment in which disease, bacteria, virus, fungus, etc., cannot live. Make sure the oil you choose is guaranteed pure such as those by Nature's Sunshine which gives you a 3-way guarantee.
First it is guaranteed organic by the grower with certification and then by the distiller and finally by the company creating a matching blueprint of the oil. No other manufacturer offers this 3-way guarantee called Sure Source. You will see oil companies use the term "therapeutic grade" but this term is not recognized by the National Association of Holistic Aromatherapy. In other words it is a sales pitch. Also, never use an oil directly on the skin unless it is Tea Tree or Lavender. These are the only oils recommended safe for use without dilution.
It is also cautioned that one should not ingest an oil as these are very concentrated and can burn the throat and esophagus. If you want to use something like peppermint you can encapsulate it or mix it with either olive oil or honey. In fact, mixing an oil in honey is a good way to help disburse it when making a tea. Only a drop or two at the most! The greatest benefit of aromatherapy is smelling it as it connects the limbic system to the lymphatic system and within seconds it is consumed by the body and going to work. If you put it in your mouth, it has to go through the digestive system and that takes much longer.
Applying essential oils in a carrier to the feet is another quick and effective way to uptake the energy of these important healing supplements. Oregano oil has antiviral and antibacterial properties and therefore can be used safely on the bottoms of the feet. I still prefer mixing it with a carrier such as hand and body lotion or massage oil.
Aromatherapy dates back nearly 6,000 years when essential oils were used for spiritual, physical and therapeutic purposes. Although the mechanism is unclear, some experts believe your sense of smell plays a central role. Breathing in scent molecules stimulates your hippocampus and amygdala, central parts of your brain that store your emotions and memories. Stimulation of these areas may influence your physical and emotional health.
For instance, there is evidence that lavender will stimulate your brain cells in a manner similar to the way sedatives work, thus effectively inducing relaxation. There is also evidence that the molecules from the oils are absorbed into your bloodstream and interact with your hormones and enzymes. Aromatherapy massage is a popular way to use essential oils as the oils are absorbed through your skin, you inhale the scent and you experience the physical therapy of the massage.
I think that soon there will be a discovery that the Interstitium takes up the vibrations from the essential oils applied and carries it to the area of the body most in need of higher frequency.
Hope you found this beneficial. Share it with those you care about.

Herbal eGram #826 Heaps of Health Benefits
Good Morning!
A very precious oil that can create Heaps of Health Benefits is Helichrysum. It is pricey but each drop is worth its weight in gold. There are cheap oils on the market but they will be diluted or not true Helichrysum ilalicum. As an antiallergenic compound it can help your liver, spleen, internal organs and nervous system fight allergies. These areas are generally where the body recognizes and determines if something should be acted upon and a defense mounted.
When the immune system is alerted that a foreign threat has entered the body (whether it has been consumed, breathed in or entered through the skin), it will increase fluid production in an effort to flush out the toxin. So, you may experience watery eyes, sinus drainage, coughing, vomiting or diarrhea as a natural response to eliminate the invader. Shortly after that inflammation will occur. It is paramount to keep fluids moving and remove the invader. Drinking fluids; taking an enema or encouraging vomiting is how you can assist your immune system.
This is considered the acute phase of removing toxins. When these are not done (most of us aren't fans of other than drinking fluids as an assist) then inflammation leads to congestion. The more congestion, the longer we have to deal with being sick. So, taking things like NSAIDS or not flushing with fluids will contribute to delaying the immune response. The longer you delay it, the more sick you get. In this case, ignorance is not bliss! You should not ignore the body when it is calling for help.
I love essential oils and using pure oils for aromatherapy is a passion I love to share with others. Essential oils can help the body in its effort to eliminate toxins and balance the body and get it back to health. Many essential oils are antimicrobial (kill toxins). But one oil stands out when it comes to being universal in wound healing and assisting the skin in eliminating scar tissue and that oil is Helichrysum. It is known also as "immortelle" and "everlasting".
Some of the health benefits include: scar healing, relief from cough spasms, infection fighting (bacterial and viral), supports respiratory system and promotes discharge of bile fluid for better fat digestion. Bumps and bruises are a part of life particularly when you are a youngster but also as one ages. Keeping this oil on hand will help your body "erase those bruises" and level out those bumps.
The basic recipe I use for scar healing: To every tablespoon of carrier oil or gel add 5 drops of Helichrysum. This is a great mixture to have on hand in a roll-on bottle to rub on as soon as you bump yourself. Roll on the oil and then rub vigorously to assist circulation. Do this every half hour until you feel no more heat at the wound site.
Last year my husband severely wounded his hand in a freak wood splitting accident. The wound healed well but left him with a scar that interfered with mobility of his hand and was quite annoying. I made up a roll-on for him to use and within two weeks the scar was noticeably diminished and within a month completely gone. The mixture I made for my husband had aloe vera gel as the base. If there is nerve damage, I will also add some St. John's wort oil. http://www.herbsofgrace.com/Homeopathy/2015/07/14/how-to-make-st-johns-wort-oil/
Many health professionals believe Helichrysum to benefit not only physical scars but emotional scars as well. Although some essential oil enthusiasts will advise internal use of essential oils, I do not. I am an Aromatherapist, and therefore I believe the smell of the oil is what activates the body and assists in the healing both emotionally and physically. As soon as you smell the oil the limbic system goes to work and it is in the brain within seconds.
Of all the areas of the brain, from an evolutionary perspective the limbic system is said to be one of the oldest and most primitive, having formed many hundreds of thousands of years ago. In fact, similar systems are also found in most other animals, even reptiles. In the past, the limbic system was sometimes even referred to as the “paleomammalian brain.”
So, rubbing essential oils (diluted) on animals like dogs and cats can assist their wound healing ability as well! So, many of my clients have used essential oils to help their pets with a variety of ills. You can diffuse it and the animal will pick up the scent and their body will benefit by it. Diffusing essential oils in a home can benefit everyone, however, if a person doesn't like the smell then honor their wishes and don't use it. There are a lot of beautiful essential oils that can appeal and assist healing.
Expanding on the thought of wound healing: acne scars, surgery scars and scars from wounds can all benefit from a dab of Helichrysum essential oil mixed with either aloe vera gel; silver gel; or massage oil (unscented). Some people will use almond or olive oil as well. NSP has a wonderful cream that easily mixes with essential oils and is well absorbed into the skin called simply: Hand and Body lotion. You can make a small jar of this up and take some to apply nightly as a face cream. Use a popsicle stick to remove a small portion (so you aren't transferring bacteria into the jar) and then place the dab into your palm. Rub your hands together; take your finger tips and massage into the bridge of the nose upward and across the forehead; then under the eyes and across the cheekbones to the temples--repeat making sure you have included the top of the nose and sides. Gather more from the palm of your hands and start at below the lower lip and rub toward the temples both above and below the jaw.
This nightly procedure will help vitalize the skin and kill bacteria while you sleep. Nourishing the skin with Helichrysum is one of the beauty secrets of the ages. This same cream can help increase circulation so, if you have swelling in ankles, apply the cream to the ankles at bedtime. Since it helps increase wound healing you can apply it to bruises to help get rid of the rainbow of colors usually associated with bruising.
Hope you found this helpful--pass it on.
