Herbal eGram #857 I'll Be Happy When...
Good Morning
Do you find yourself saying this? I'll be happy when "this week is over". I'll be happy when I graduate." I'll be happy when "I'm done with such and such". Why do we wait for happiness? There are many people who don't like the Holidays and can't wait for them to be over.
Enjoying life is being active in the process. Find something to be joyful about and live it. Being thankful for what you have is an exercise in being joyful. It is when we lose something that we've taken for granted, that we miss it the most. Being present and enjoying the gifts God has given us takes awareness.
What five things can you recall each night that you are grateful for? Perhaps it is a roof over your head. In 2016 a census count was held of the homeless people in the United States and it stated there were approximately 3.5 million people who experience homelessness at some point during that year. Some were able to find shelters for the night and some were able to enjoy a hot meal but many were using boxes or makeshift housing and eating from garbage bins. If you are unhappy, spend some time in a soup kitchen helping out. If you can't do this, pray for those less fortunate.
Being filled with Joy is like learning to smile. As babies, we smiled; when did it stop? Did you have a disappointment or tragedy? Has being sad become a habit? Maybe you don't know how to be happy again. Maybe you think you don't deserve happiness. Our government was established on these rights: " We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.”
So happiness is a pursuit--it takes action. Create an abundance journal. Write in it every day what you have to be grateful for and you will find yourself looking for things to write in it and soon you will notice a good feeling--we call this happiness. It's a way of looking at the world we live in and seeing the good rather than looking for the negative. Spreading negativity is like throwing mud on all the beauty we could be enjoying. Don't gossip or continue negative messages. Don't bully!
Being a bully on the internet with social media is rampant among teens. Don't encourage it by sharing it with others. Share good messages. Hope and understanding can go a long way in helping someone heal. Look to do what you can to support others and soon you will feel fulfilled. Be grateful that you have the energy to help others. Maybe it is shoveling someone's walk; making chicken soup; or just sending them some good wishes.
Pity parties have their place. We all need to grieve when sorrow is felt. But, we also must recognize when to get with the living again and enjoy our blessings. If you've lost a loved one, be grateful that you have known a great love. Some never have. If you have your health; be grateful for it and support your body with healthy thinking and food. If you need guidance in what is healthful for you, get that guidance. The internet can be a good source buy don't just go by one reference. Find three different references and go with that suggestion. Or, consult a qualified natural health professional.
Happiness is the right all individuals deserve just because we are human. Take stock at what makes you happy and healthy and do it. Balancing the good and bad can be difficult if you don't actually take stock at what you do on a daily basis. Helping Find Strength to break a habit can be supported by flower essences and essential oils.
Usually bullies act the way they do because of low self-esteem. Find Strength can help increase positive energy and love yourself for who you are. Maybe you were bullied as a child and you just carried on this negative behavior. Learn new behaviors that help lift your spirit. Good Morning
"Love is patient; Love is Kind; love is not envious or boastful or arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice in wrong doing, but rejoices in truth. It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things," Jesus gave us this quote. It surely is something to contemplate during this season. He never said: "it is easy". Finding love must first come with acceptance.
This quote is often said at weddings to remind us that loving someone in sickness and in health; whether rich or poor; etc means to love without limitations. How can you do that? With acceptance! Accepting that a person is human and we all make mistakes. Being truthful means to own up to those mistakes. We live in a world of blame. She did it; He did it...SODDI (Some other dude did it). It takes courage to own up to a mistake. It means that we need to accept the consequences that come with making an error. Sometimes that consequence is to lose the love you desire.
We cannot give love unless we first love ourselves. "Love one another as you love yourself". Love is not doing something that feels wrong just to be accepted by others. Love is being kind and understanding that we may need to do something to better ourselves which is difficult. The more we say "no" to the things that make us feel guilty or bad and "yes" to those things that help us feel good about ourselves, our self love gets stronger. Teaching our children about bullies and negative peer pressure should begin before school age. Many of us were not taught how to say "no". When you are young, parents act as a conscience, and they teach from their bank of knowledge. We see it as rejection but we should view it as, "they love me and want the best for me". But, it is less painful to learn from the experience of others.
We build our defenses by saying "no" to those things that, in our heart, don't feel right. Often our thinking brain will over power our heart and that's when we get into trouble. Pay more attention to what is in your heart, than what is in your brain. What are your values? That is what is in your heart. When you are true to your values it will feel right both in your heart and in your gut. The brain often lies! Believing that you can make good decisions often depends on how often you listen to your gut instincts.
The energy that comes with making good decisions is powerful. I have found that you can acquire this energy by taking the flower essences of Be Response-able and follow it with Be Courageous. Be Response-able helps people who have followed a wrongful path--one of addiction, negative behavior, self-defeating actions and un-love. Recognizing that there is a better way to deal with disappointment is often the first step. The next is having the courage to make better decisions.
The remedy Be Courageous helps one to conquer indecision and adversity with inner calm. The energy is felt in the core, or center of our being where the gut and heart reside. Building this area's ability to stay in touch with our values and principles is important in good decision making. It can help that teen to recognize that perhaps saying "no" to that party and doing something else fun will keep them out of trouble. It can help that adult do what they know to be "the right thing".
Once you love yourself, you can love others with confidence. When you listen to your gut and make decisions based on those feelings, you will be confident in who you can trust your heart to. It isn't foolproof. There are people out there who haven't learned what you have and are trying to falsify love. It is risky to love fully, but the reward is so sweet. When you lose that love, it hurts. Don't close off the feelings. Trade the hurt for gratitude that you were loved and you experienced loving. Some people never do.
Who do you trust your love to? Go back to the quote at the beginning of this article. Does that person meet those requirements of love? Are they boastful, resentful; Are they kind and patient; Do they insist on their own way; Are they rude, arrogant and relish the negative? If they are, are they willing to change? Can they? Change requires awareness. Perhaps they never noticed they spend all their time being negative and you can show them how beautiful it can be when you live in love.
As the Beatles say: "All you need is love, love! All you need is love". So first love yourself and then share that love with others--don't expect love back. Share it for the sake of love. Love to you during this Season.

Good Morning
We all wish it. It's on all the Holiday cards we send. But having true peace is something we must strive to have in our life because stress is a killer! What are you doing to achieve peace in your daily life? Do you meditate; use essential oils; take supplements that support nervous system health; use flower essence remedies?
There are many forms of meditation/prayer and the value of this exercise has been proven over time. Being able to stop the madness and take some deep breaths, whether it is in a group or individually, helps us to recharge our battery. It is as necessary to health as eating or breathing. Some of us have to put it in our schedule so we don't let the day pass on without doing some form of relaxation and calm. I am Catholic and I enjoy my religion and the rituals. In being Catholic, I feel that I have guidelines that help me to be a better person. I strive to be charitable and understanding. I pray for my clients and friends who have asked me to. My goal is to help those who desire help and not push my beliefs or goals onto others. Everyone needs to walk their own path. If I can help lighten that path in some way, I am grateful for the opportunity.
If one believes in a higher being (whatever you name it); there can be some peace of mind that someone is weaving life's tapestry and you don't have to see the full picture to understand that the challenge's we are faced with have meaning. That being said, I think that we create some of our own challenges be the choices we make. "Lead us not into temptation". Do you put yourself in places that can potentially create a scenario of concern?
Finding peace within is assisted by using essential oils. Lavender is well-known for its ability to calm. If you don't like the smell of Lavender, then you can choose another essential oil that smells pleasant and helps you feel good. NSP has some wonderful blends such as Refuge that is helpful for relaxation. It has lavender in it but also some citrusy smells and vanilla that helps to lift the aroma.
These oils have been studied for their anti-anxiety effects. This time of the year, we could all use a spray of anti-anxiety! Maybe it should be diffused in the malls. The hustle and bustle of the season can be fun for some people and it can be upsetting for others. It really is dependent on the frame of mind. If we think something is going to be stressful even before we get the whole picture, it will definitely be stressful. Vanilla helps to bring a calming sense of well-being and in this remedy, it adds to the ability to think clearly and de-stress.
Talking about de-stress; Distress Remedy is a choice of flower essences that many people use during this time of the year. The ability to make good choices comes from being centered and Distress Remedy helps you remain centered when all about you is chaos. Here is a great spray you can use to start your day, and maybe stick in a purse or briefcase to help you throughout the day:
In a 2 ounce spray bottle put in two droppers of Distress Remedy and 15 drops of Refuge essential oil blend--add purified water to shoulder of bottle. Close with dropper lid and shake. Spray a mist of it and take a deep breath. This combination can help you feel instantly in charge and able to calmly handle the day. Be sure to mark it and make some up for those friends who are going through some rough times.

B vitamins are water soluble and we need to constantly supply the body with them if we want our nerves to be healthy. If you are like most people after the feast of Thanksgiving, you've had your fill of turkey. But here are some fun facts that you may not know about turkey: We know that "turkey coma" comes from the tryptophan in the turkey. Tryptophan is a precursor to serotonin which helps us relax and feel good. There was a scientific study regarding tryptophan and behavior:
"Tryptophan significantly decreased quarrelsome behaviors and increased agreeable behaviors and perceptions of agreeableness. Men also behaved less dominantly, whereas both men and women perceived others as more dominant”. The study was done by J Psychiatry Neurosci. 2006 Jul; 31(4): 253–262.
Calming behavior is just one of the advantages of getting more tryptophan. The supplement 5htp is also a precursor to serotonin and has some very amazing scientific studies showing a comparison to SSRI's. 5-hydroxy-tryptophan is a natural extract from the seeds of the Griffonia plant which is a shrub native to Ghana and the Ivory Coast of Africa. It is also produced in our own body but not always in the supply needed by some people.
Here's one of the fun facts: Tryptophan converts to 5HTP and then that converts to serotonin. The biosynthesis of serotonin crosses the blood brain barrier instantly and plays important roles in the feelings of depression, anxiety, appetite, behavior, migraine headaches and even the inability to control muscular movements (ataxia). Having it in a supplement with Adaptogenic herbs such as Eleuthero root and Ashwaganda increase the calming abilities of this amino acid.

Herbal eGram #853 I Give You Love!
Good Morning
The words we say help create our reality. Do you love yourself? What is your self-talk? Can you stand in front of the mirror and say, "I love you!"? You may not like some of the things you do, or have done. You are a working model. As humans we either learn from the mistakes of others, or we make them ourselves. Most of us think, "that won't happen to me". This arrogance often brings us sorrow and pain.
The choices we make in life are hugely responsible for what our lives are like. Occasionally the choices were not made by us but, not making a choice can have consequences as well. Choose to live a purposeful life with discipline to follow that choice. If you want to be healthy--there are choices you make to contribute to, or take away from the healthy life.
Our thoughts have a great impact on how healthy we are. "Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words can never hurt me." This statement is not true. Words have energy. If we believe the words others say, it can affect our health. Thinking love toward yourself and then to others. "Love thy neighbor as thyself". This means we must first be able to love ourselves.
Practice loving yourself. Say kind thoughts to yourself. If you make a mistake, pretend it was done by some child. Would you admonish that child; tell them that they are stupid? If you do, then you have a lot of work to do! Most of us would be kind and tell the child, "you'll do better next time"; or, "it's all right--we all make mistakes". Think of yourself as that child and say encouraging words.
The Pancreas holds the emotions associated with self-esteem. If we hear the words, and they resonate with how we really feel about ourselves, they can do incredible harm. How you feel about yourself and how you feel others view you can impact the health of the pancreas. In fact, since we are about 90 percent water, every cell in our body can be affected by the words we say or think.
According to a scientist: Dr. Masaru Emoto and his work on water crystals, our very existence is determined by the vibrations we are exposed to-- The music we listen to; the thoughts we think; the colors we wear; the people we surround ourselves with and especially our self-talk. Practice loving yourself and forgiving yourself for making mistakes.
There is nothing but vibrations. Music has vibrations; color has vibrations; thoughts have vibrations and all of these make up the way our cells vibrate. If our cells vibrate in a loving and caring way--we are moving toward being healthy. If we feel fear, worry, anger, guilt, blame or other negative emotions, we lower our vibratory rate. We can raise that rate of energy by using vibrational medicine.
Essential oils vibrate at a very healing level. So do Flower essences. If we need to raise our vibratory rate to help our body heal, using these in combination is doubly helpful. Generally we want to disburse the negativity. So, we use things like Release it flower essence. You can add a dropper of the essence to a bottle of water but in general, I like to just take this one and use the water method for something like Be Courageous.
Releasing energy of sorrow, disappointment, fear can help you strive for the feelings of hope and love. You want to take a couple of deep breaths after taking the remedy under the tongue (much like a homeopathic remedy). Then, you can take an encouraging essence such as Be Courageous. This remedy was designed to help encourage you away from self-doubt and step out of your comfort zone. It makes you want to puff out your chest and say, "I can do this!"
Since the pancreas holds the emotions pertaining to self, you might want to precede it with Be Response-able. This is a great remedy for anyone struggling with addictive behaviors and that includes self-doubt. It helps one recognize the trap you are setting for yourself and then follow it with Be Courageous remedy to follow the path you really want for yourself. The one you deserve--happiness and health.
Many people like to add an essential oil to a flower essence which will give you even more vibrational punch. So, adding Core essential blend to a spray bottle with Be Courageous can help you spray you way to better vibrations. Add a dropper full of the Be Courageous to a 2 oz spray bottle; add 10 drops Core Essential blend and then fill the bottle with purified water. Shake and spray. NSP has sprayer bottles that you can purchase. If you decide to get your own: dark, glass bottles are recommended for storing and using essential oils.
This blend can also be diffused in a water diffuser with the recipe. NSP has a small and large version that can be a wonderful Christmas present. Herbal eGram #852 Is this a Heart Attack?
Good Morning
This month I've dedicated to raising awareness about Digestion and the need for enzymes and the proper pH to help digest. In doing this research I came across some very interesting videos by a UK doctor from York who talks about the relationship between heart palpitations and gastric upset.
I found it extremely interesting that a medical doctor would find this relationship and how the vagus nerve ties the two together. Of course his response is to take acid reducing medication but that isn't addressing the root cause.
The fact that we aren't breaking down our food properly and acid reducing medication will only contribute further to that problem doesn't seem to bother them. If you read the handouts of side effects from these drugs, you will see that Osteoporosis and stomach cancer may be side effects!
Mineral absorption cannot take place unless proper digestion occurs. We need two basic things for proper digestion and that is the right pH (which is between 2.5 and 4 in the stomach) and the right enzymes to digest the food we are eating.
Structurally we contribute to poor digestion by hunching over while eating and packing too much food into the stomach. Poor posture while eating smashes the stomach up into the esophagus and can trigger the vagus nerve. Watching the video (he does have several) about heart palpitations will give you an idea just how important this main nerve is to the heart and to the stomach.
Masking the symptoms of indigestion with drugs is like ignoring the signal light on the dash! Your body is trying to communicate to you that you are doing something wrong. Listen to my class on Do you need Enzymes?
When the stomach pushes up into the esophagus and is lodged there it interrupts the ability to digest properly. It may give you a feeling of fullness when you've just eaten a small amount; it may feel like you have a stabbing pain in the mid-back; or it may just feel like you are having a heart attack. The nerve that may be triggering these feelings is the Vagus nerve. I suggest you do more research on this if you are struggling to understand the common link between digestion and heart palpitations.
I've experience a hiatal hernia years ago and my experience was: I went to look at my garden after eating dinner and bent down to pull some weeds. I didn't want to dirty my slacks so I bent from the waist to pick weeds. And you don't just pick a weed, you usually see lots more. So, after about 10 minutes of picking weeds, I felt like someone was behind me stabbing me in the back. It really hurt--so much that I stood up straight and looked behind me. Of course, nobody was there.
This is a common experience signifying that I had pushed my full stomach up into the diaphragm and put pressure on the vagus nerve. This is one of the many reasons why I am grateful for my Chiropractor husband. He checked me with several muscle tests and determined that my diaphragm was struggling and helped me be able to breathe again without pain and get rid of the stabbing feeling.
Other people, and this is the most common response, have a feeling like they're having a heart attack. Pain in the chest particularly on the left side. That's because the vagus nerve meets the left aortic valve and it's being pinched. I'm not using technical terms here so if you want the anatomical answer I suggest you watch the videos linked above. What I want to say here is there is a medical answer for why you are having heart burn and it isn't a lack of acid inhibitors.
Taking enzymes will help you digest your food properly and having the right pH will make it so that digestion can occur in a timely manner but if you hunch over while eating you are creating a structurally poor environment for good digestion. Good Morning
Bromelain is an enzyme that can be found in pineapple. It is a proteolytic enzyme which means it digests proteins. I love pineapple and years ago we took a trip to Hawaii. Where better to find fresh pineapple? So, the first morning I found myself at the breakfast buffet and I loaded my plate with pineapple. It was so yummy! I ate my way through about a half a pineapple and my mouth felt a little tingly. By the afternoon my tongue was swollen and I kept trying to soothe it with water but it really didn't help.
Years later I found out that most people can't eat a lot of raw pineapple because it makes the tongue swell. It starts to break down the proteins in your mouth and that creates irritation. Eating a small amount is not a problem for most people and cooked, it doesn't have the same response because the enzymes have been killed. So it is best to supplement if you want the benefits from Bromelain on a daily basis.
Why would you want to take bromelain daily? Well, as I mentioned it helps to break down proteins. This means it can break down fibrinogen which too much of creates a tendency to clot. When blood clotting is activated, fibrinogen circulating in the blood is converted to fibrin, which in turn helps to form a stable blood clot at the site of vascular disruption. Coagulation inhibitor proteins help to prevent abnormal coagulation (hypercoagulability) and to resolve clots after they are formed. So, bromelain is a coagulation inhibitor that can help break up clots after they are no longer necessary.
Bromelain is an anti-inflammatory so it can help wherever inflammation is occurring. Many people say it really helps with arthritic pain and it doesn't upset the stomach like many NSAIDS do. When you have an injury the body sends fibrinogen to the sight to stop bleeding and help with repair. Think of too many ambulances arriving at the scene of an accident. These ambulances create congestion then add to it all the "sight seekers" and you have a mess. The ambulances carrying "the victims" can't move out of the tissue spaces. This is where it is important to help with rubbing the wound (as long as it isn't bleeding outwardly).
I have been able to prevent bruising by rubbing an injury way longer than you normally would. You rub until there is no more heat or pain. When the pain returns you rub again to keep circulation going and tissue damage to the healthy cells at a minimum. Ice calms down the inflammation in between the rubbing. If it is bleeding then compression is necessary to contain inflammation.
Taking enzymes, like bromelain as soon after the injury as possible will also help the wound heal faster. You will find that you may not even have to take any pain medication if you follow those few steps. It really is interesting that people don't want to take the time to spend a few minutes rubbing but they're willing to hurt for a week or more.
Bromelain can help with weight loss! Some research has shown that as part of a healthy diet and exercise program, bromelain daily can help break down toxins that are stored in fat. It helps to remove these waste products from the body by emulsifying the fat they are stored in. More research needs to be done on this but it certainly makes sense to me.
The main thing I love about bromelain is its ability to assist with digestion. It helps to break down mucus which inhibits good digestion. This is wonderful news for those who have sinus issues and allergies. In a combination of other digestive aids, bromelain can help break down proteins and assist in muscle repair. This protein digesting factor is called proteolytic.

This month I've concentrated on Respiratory concerns and how to keep healthy during the Fall and Winter months. When NSP came out with Ravintsara essential oil I had no clue about its value. This is a wonderful, great smelling oil that helps fight viruses; even shingles! The global documentation about this oil comes from places like Madagascar, Germany and France. Aromatherapists around the world find this oil to be highly effective against viruses.
Viruses cannot survive without a host and the proper environment to live in. They have a protein barrier that keeps the immune system from finding and destroying them. There are herbs and enzymes that can break down this coating and then exposing the virus to attack by our immune defenses. They are also smaller than bacteria so antibiotics are useless in defending against them.
Unlike bacteria there are no good viruses. There are however good bacteria and they should inhabit out body. Viruses are undesirable! Taking supplements, or using essential oils to fight them should be done on a daily basis. There is no such thing as too many anti-virals. I use Elderberry, Olive Leaf, Essential Shield and Silver Shield on a daily basis to keep my body free from viruses.
Colds and flu are common viruses. Others are Herpes, Shingles, Cold Sores, Mononucleosis, Epstein Barr and a variety of other concerns are from simple to complex versions of the herpes virus. Stress is a factor in all of those. Helping your body decrease stress by using such things like a vitamin B, like Nutri Calm, and a vibrational liquid like, Distress Remedy are very beneficial to do daily to help keep your nervous system and immune system healthy.
Since I don't believe that a flu shot can help against all the viruses out there, I use natural remedies for specific concerns. There is a multitude of documentation that shows the effectiveness of natural remedies. You can find Ravintsara on all the Aromatherapy websites that describe historical uses and they agree to the benefits.
Ravintsara is used for emotional health. The oil shows a lot of promise for use in helping to focus in the midst of stressful situations and for helping to calm the nerves. The effects seem to help with clear thinking. So, it would be a good oil for one to wear during school. Younger children (before teens) need to make sure it is well diluted if applying it. All applications should be diluted.
Since it is also reputed to help with clearing skin conditions, here is a wash for the face and a cream that you can use nightly to keep skin clear.
Face wash: in a 2 ounce squeeze bottle add 1 teaspoon Silver Shield; 1 teaspoon Nature's Fresh; 5 drops Ravintsara and fill to shoulder with purified water. Shake well and put a small amount in the palm of your hand. Scrub both hands together and apply to face making sure to avoid the eyes. Rinse by filling your hands with warm water and splashing on face several times with eyes closed. Pat dry with a clean towel.
Face lotion: in a 2 ounce squeeze bottle add 1 teaspoon Silver Shield; 5 drops Ravintsara essential oil --mix together the fill bottle with Hand and Body lotion or unscented lotion of your choice. Shake well and lightly apply to face and neck.
Taking good care of your skin will reward you for years to come. Protecting the skin against bacteria, viruses and fungus helps to keep you healthy as this is the first line of defense. The lotion above can be used on the whole body. Make a bigger bottle of it for whole body use; just double or triple the recipe so you can apply it to arms legs and trunk of the body to keep your skin healthy.
I also use a natural soap for a shower gel and add whatever essential oil I feel like that day. Almost all essential oils are antimicrobial and can assist in keeping you healthy. The good thing is they don't strip away the healthy bacteria like antibiotic soaps do.
For cleaning I use the new Essential Shield concentrated cleaner. I put about 10 drops in the toilet at night and swish. Leave it in while you sleep and overnight it is disinfecting your toilet killing off harmful microbes. I fill a 6 ounce spray bottle with water and 20 drops of Essential Shield cleaner to clean almost everything: stove, counter, cutting boards, sinks, toilet seats, shower and bath. It leaves everything smelling clean and wonderful. No harmful fumes to be afraid of such as there is with chlorine.
Spray a paper towel with the solution and put it in a baggy for wiping off surfaces like grocery carts; phones; computer keyboards etc. You can also make a spray for the office: In a 2 ounce spray bottle add 10 drops of Essential shield oil and add water--shake well and spray. It can be killing off viruses while you work.

Good Morning
Bronchitis is a diagnosis of a particular respiratory imbalance that affects the function of taking air into the lungs. Whenever you see the ending of a word as "itis" it means inflammation. The lining of the bronchial tubes are supposed to have a thin layer of mucus to protect it from irritation. Smoking erodes this lining.
The lining is very important to your immune system's ability to keep out toxins such as bacteria, viruses, fungus and parasites. See last week's information about biofilm for more about this mucosal lining. Drinking water is important to help build this lining. Having a humidifier going during the winter months can help keep the air from being too dry. I like to add a few drops of tea tree oil to mine to keep the water from growing mold spores.
Another protection against dry mucus membranes is to make and eat bone broth. Dr. Mercola has a great article on this along with a recipe on how to make great bone broth. I put some in ice cube trays and whenever a recipe calls for liquid, I'll use the bone broth. It can be a base for soups, stews, any sauce really. It adds wonderful nutrition but more importantly collagen.
Collagen is the most abundant protein in the human body, found in the bones, muscles, skin, and tendons. It is the substance that holds the body together. Collagen forms a scaffold to provide strength and structure. It also holds the mucus together as a thin film to protect our skin inside our body. It surrounds every tissue to protect it. As we age we lose the collagen in our body. I think it's because we tend to not drink enough water and so the scaffolding collapses leaving us vulnerable to infection.
Chemicals can cause irritation; overuse and abuse can be a contributing factor and not having the proper mucosal lining to deal with the irritation can all contribute to bronchitis. Smoking is one of the primary reasons for bronchitis. It isn't just harmful for the smoker but anyone who may be close and breathing. It is particularly disturbing for me to see children exposed to cigarette smoke. They are held captive in vehicles where some parent is smoking.
Taking care of your body is a responsibility. We have indulged in bad food and bad habits and then we expect someone to make us well. You need to take steps to help your body defend against poor environment that you have no control over. Don't make it worse by your choices. Drink half your body weight in ounces of healthy reverse osmosis water. Make bone broth and have it 3-4 times a week. You will notice better skin and improved joint health if you do this often enough. You can have a cup of it as a clear soup every day for best results.
Taking over the counter cold medications can dry out mucus membranes making them susceptible to inflammation and then infection. Removing irritants from the lungs is one of the functions of the bronchioles. Assisting it with a combination of herbs such as will help work with the body to decrease inflammation and address the invaders irritating the tissues. These invaders can be bacterial, viral, fungal or parasitical. There are herbs in this Ayurvedic formula to address all of these as well as supporting better digestion. When the proper environment of the digestive system isn't there to challenge microbes, they can easily pass into the blood stream and find the weak areas of the body to multiply. Proper breathing exercises can help strengthen the respiratory system. Diaphragmatic breathing, or deep breathing, is breathing that is done by contracting the diaphragm, a muscle located horizontally between the thoracic cavity and abdominal cavity. Air enters the lungs and the chest rises and the belly expands during this type of breathing. Learning to breath from your "belly" can be helpful when you are anxious. It can get you to a calmer state.
A Hiatal Hernia can interrupt the diaphragm from being able to move properly. These most often occur due to laying down after eating; bending over after a meal; stress and pushing with your stomach to make a bowel movement. Using Lavender oil across the abdomen at night can help the diaphragm relax and move normally. Getting help from a Chiropractor versed in diaphragm spasms is more of an answer than ignoring it. Often the stomach has to be retrained not to be up in the diaphragm. This situation can mimic a heart attack; contribute to indigestion; pain, gas and bloating.
The main thing it does is inhibit the deep breath necessary to remove gas toxins from the lungs. Your lungs are organs in your chest that allow your body to take in oxygen from the air. They also help remove carbon dioxide (a waste gas that can be toxic) from your body. The lungs' intake of oxygen and removal of carbon dioxide is called gas exchange. Gas exchange is part of breathing.
If you've ever had trouble breathing or catching your breath, you will never take it for granted again. You can go days without food and water but you can only go minutes without air. Take care of your ability to breath properly.

Good Morning
Recent studies have shown that our mucus membranes are part of a system of our immunity; but also can be a part of why inflammation may be hard to address. Natural Biofilms help protect our intestines. "Bacteria can survive harsh conditions when growing in complex communities of cells known as biofilms. The matrix of the biofilm presents a scaffold where cells are attached to each other and to the surface. The biofilm matrix is also a protective barrier that confers tolerance against various antimicrobial agents." This is published in PubMed by NCBI. Later it explains that there is a new drug capable of breaking up these films when they are proved to be harmful. Of course it is very expensive and in trial stages. Usually the information in PubMed is slanted toward what drug will fix the problem.
The drug is based on proteolytic enzymes (which are cheap and readily available). Dr. Murray has been stating the beneficial effects of taking enzymes for years. I know that when I take Proactazyme I can more easily cough up thickened mucus. So, if it is easier to cough up, than we can assume it is efficiently breaking down protein bonds that cause thickened mucus and congest the body. This congestion contributes to inflammation.
Good bacteria live in the biofilm matrix and can help protect us from infection. However, the continued onslaught of antibiotics (through taking them and eating animals injected with them) can change the biofilm to harbor harmful microbes that continue to allow rampant inflammation in all areas of the body. So, daily use of enzymes in between meals can help if you are inflamed according to Dr. Murray.
Fiber helps to slow the release of these enzymes. One good way to take them is with UltraBiome DTX mixed in water. Shake it up and take two Proactazyme with it. While the UltraBiome DTX is helping to detoxify heavy metals and other harmful microbes, the Proactazyme can be breaking up the mucus to allow the release of toxins from the biofilm. Good Morning
Remember when parsley was the condiment that would accompany your meal in a restaurant? I always ate it. It's been replaced by kale and sometimes that isn't the easiest to eat. They are both very nutritious but parsley is a breath freshener and if you are eating something with garlic, it could deodorize the smell.
Parsley is a bitter herb that dries watery mucus conditions and is helpful for allergies, asthma, bronchitis, coughs and much more. At the beginning of a cold when the mucus is making your nose run and eyes itch, this herb made into a tea could help slow that down. If you take a decongestant you will stop this response by the immune system to kill offending microbes. The mucus is acidic and cold germs do not like acid mediums so it flushes out of the system.
Although parsley effectively dries up the watery mucus it can assist the immune system in its antibacterial and antifungal action. It is very helpful for earaches and ear infections. Parsley is sold in capsule form if you would rather do that. Capsules are better at dosage. Creating a tea always makes me wonder if I brewed it enough to get the medicinal properties out.

It also contains potassium, which helps balance sodium levels, and manganese to help manage calcium levels and nourish the nerves.

Think of ways you can add parsley to your daily diet. If not you can make a smoothie with Nature's Harvest (which has parsley in it).

Herbal eGram #846 Cold and flu season!
Good Morning
I thought we had 4 seasons: winter, spring, summer and fall. We often joke here in Michigan that we have two seasons: winter and construction. But according to the CDC we have another season: cold and flu. Why? It isn't because you weren't vaccinated because there is no cold vaccine. In fact, there is no cure for a cold. Colds and flu are generally caused by viruses, so taking an antibiotic is useless.
A cold is generally caused by a rhinovirus that has overcome the immune system's ability to fight it. Most people have deficient vitamin D levels which I discussed in the previous eGram: Herbal eGram #845 Are you getting enough? D--that is! So, I would like to share with you some tips on avoiding colds and flu by boosting your immune power. I will go into this in full detail in my class on October 13th but I thought I would like to give you a few tips now.
Silver Shield goes through the blood stream to help the immune system protect us against invaders (not the Pac Man type but bugs like rhinoviruses). This nano form of Silver is small enough to even enter a blood cell and kill infections. What I do to maintain health is take a teaspoon to a tablespoon every morning along with my vitamin D. My winter vitamin D includes Elderberry. I love the Elderberry D3fense because it has herbs in it that support the immune system against bacteria and viruses.
Being closed up indoors during the fall and winter months is one of the contributing factors to us getting sick. Stress and how we handle it is also a factor. The more stress we perceive the more the immune system gets depleted so enter: Distress Remedy. Whenever we fill anxious about something this energy medicine can go to work raising our vibratory rate.
Ingredients include: Arnica (Arnica mollis), Star of Bethlehem (Ornithogalum umbellatum), Rock Rose (Helianthemum nummularium), Impatiens (Impatiens glandulifera), Clematis (Clematis vitalba), Cherry Plum (Prunus cerasifera) Red Clover (Trifolium pratense), in a base of vegetable glycerin and purified water. Distress Remedy helps you deal with day-to-day stress so your body doesn't become overwhelmed. It is taken by the dropperful by mouth (careful not to touch the glass dropper while you drop it into your mouth.)
Another thing you can do is use the essential oil combination called: Essential Shield. This combination has essential oils that were used historically to deter viruses as virulent as the plague. They are effective and yet gentle. You may recall the old time remedy of Vick's Vaporub. Now we know that this is made with petrochemicals as its base and not recommended to be put on the skin. A great alternative for this is either Essential Shield or Tei Fu Lotion.
These essential oils open up the sinuses and allow for better oxygen flow. When one breaths through the mouth there is no filtering as there is when you breathe through your nose. So, it is important to be a nose breather so your body can filter out some of the germs we are exposed to. According to Dr. Lewis, "Bacteria and toxins are all around us and in the air that we breathe. Nose breathing gives us the best possible chance of dealing with this challenge.
This is because within the nasal passages there are many filtration mechanisms at play. These are: the fine hairs in the nose, the adenoids, turbinates, and mucous membranes of the sinuses. When we utilize these, we can warm, filtrate and humidify the air that we breathe. This reduces the likelihood of allergies, hay fever, enlarged tonsils and other chronic respiratory problems. If we bypass these filtration mechanisms, we rely on the tonsils as our ‘last line of defense’. This can enlarge the tonsils, increase the chances of infection and cause difficulty breathing at night."
Some people have created the habit of breathing through the mouth and some do it only when exercising vigorously. We need to correct this bad habit. One of the ways you can do this is to rub a dab of Tei Fu essential oil on the palm of your hand and then briskly rub them together. Close your eyes and bring the palms of your hands up to your nose and encase the nose with them. Take 4-5 deep breaths; take away your palms and then breath thorough your nose. If it is still stuffed up do it again. You need to wash your hands after this because you don't want to rub your eyes as this will make them tear.
Tei fu oil is a combination of menthol oils that open up the air passages to allow for better breathing. It also helps the mucus membranes to flow and that is why it will make your eyes tear if you get too close to them. Tei fu helps energy to flow so I've used it on bruises or bumps to help circulation and clear them fast. You can actually rub a bruise away doing this. I've done it many times.
Another way you can avoid germs during this time of year is to put them in a diffuser. We have several to choose from. Doing this in a sickroom can contain those germs so other family members don't get sick. Although, in natural medicine we think of the cold as the cure. Think of it. We sneeze out toxins; cough out and spit out junk and in all counts we are getting rid of infection. But of course the best thing is to have a healthy immune system by being careful about diet, exercise, rest, water and all those other things we need to do for a healthy body.
